Pitchfork on Joker again

Joker will play Incubate as a part of Generation Bass. A few months ago, Joker was just one mysterious name among many that got kicked around dance music message boards. These days, he’s still a pretty mysterious figure, but his profile has significantly risen, thanks to a number of inventive singles: “Gully Brook Lane”, “Digidesign”, the landmark “Purple City”.
Joker’s take on dubstep is slinkier and more melodic than those of his subwoofer-wrecking contemporaries. Though his tracks annihilate bass bins with the best of them, they make for shockingly rewarding office earbud listening. There’s a certain approachability to his 80s videogame textures and Justice-esque discordant synths.
So who is Joker? It turns out that he’s a 20-year-old kid from Bristol who doesn’t much like talking to foreign journalists on the phone and who listens to tons of 80s synth-funk. Pitchfork recently caught up with Joker and found him to be a man of few words. Read more.
