The Incubate gospel according to Angelique Spaninks

August 28, 2009

‘The Incubate gospel according to’ section gives you tips from insiders. Check others out here.

Who are you?
Angelique Spaninks, director of MU art space in Eindhoven, where I program arts and popculture in the broadest sense of the words. We have worked with artists like Henrik Vibskov, Mike Mills, Miranda July, Ari Marcopoulos, Peter Sutherland, Eva + Franco Mattes, Swoon, ZEVS, Club Donny, VVORK, Jeroen Jongeleen & Erosie, The Changes etc. etc.

What will you be doing during Incubate 2009 (Sept. 13-20)?
See and hear as much as I can and definitely not only music.

Which three artists do you recommend to see at Incubate 2009?
- Musicwise I recommend the party animals of Bonaparte who play at Cul de Sac on Tuesday september 15 at 23.30 because of their unadapted and awesome, anarchistic and inspiring live performance.

And Soap&Skin playing at Kleine Zaal 013 on Sunday september 20 at 21.45 because of her heartbreaking fragile yet overwhelming songs that have thrilled me since I bought the ‘Lovetune for Vacuum’ cd months ago and would love to hear performed live for the first time at Incubate.

Two bonus appearances I very much look forward to: the African angle with Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou and AJ Holmes & The Hackney Empire playing the Muzetuin on Sunday september 20 for free.
- Artwise I look forward to the presentation of contemporary artists Dennis Tyfus and Vaast Colson but also Renée van Trier and Willem Claassen and many others who have let themselves be inspired by the work of Hermann Nitsch (whose blood stained work I will also check out at De Pont).

- Intellectually I’d like to hear Andrew Keen speaking again, if only to hear whether he’s still so simplisticly anti-www and blogging as he was about a year ago in Amsterdam. But than again he’s all about gate-keepers on information and what I am doing here (on request of Incubate) is a bit of gate-keeping myself…hmmmm

Which artist would you like to see on Incubate 2010?
I would say BARR aka Brendan Fowler of ANP Quarterly for his music and his performances and art etc. etc.
