Ah, there it is again: the new Roadburn edition! From the 15th ’till the 18th of April Tilburg will be the stoner capital of the world. And yes: that is something to be proud of. In honour of this great festival, Inlog.org has a Roadburn special for you, outlining just a few of the many must-sees.
First up: Candlemass (at Roadburn on April 17th), because they will be playing their hugely influential album Epicus Doomicus Metallicus from beginning to end. It is seen by some as the first real doom record. But I wouldn’t go that far as I certainly do not want to disqualify Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Saint Vitus or Trouble.
But influential it certainly is. It is very hard to imagine for instance the 90′s Peaceville doom trio (Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema) without Candlemass releasing this album. In these times where everyone seems to be looking for the next best thing I think it is great that Roadburn pays attention to a truly great album that was released as early as 1986.
Candlemass bandleader Leif Edling on playing at Roadburn: We will play a very special set, “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” in its entirety for the very first time, featuring Johan Längquist [who sang on the album, but left Candlemass shortly after that] on vocals!
There will also be a Robert Lowe part of the show, where we do some classics as well as new stuff of course. I think there will be some special surprises there too! I must say I love the early show time on the Saturday. Then there’s plenty of time to watch the other bands later!! Stay heavy.”
