Ah, there it is again: the new Roadburn edition! From the 15th ’till the 18th of April Tilburg will be the stoner capital of the world. And yes: that is something to be proud of. In honour of this great festival, Inlog.org has a Roadburn special for you, outlining just a few of the many must-sees.
Maybe one of the most talked about metal releases this year was released in February by the Norwegian Shining (at Roadburn on Saturaday April 17th). The album Blackjazz was for a great many perhaps the first encounter with this jazz-outfit-turned-into-extreme-metallers. But not for those of you that saw them perform at Incubate (or ZXZW as it was called back then) in 2008, of course. That frontman and saxophonist Jørgen Munkeby contributed his freaky sax sounds onto the recent Ihsahn (Emperor frontman) release would have helped as well of course.
Where I personally thought the Blackjazz album was a bit slick, I cannot help but imagine those songs will only gain in spontaneity, energy and psychedelic reactions of the listeners brain when played live.
Undoubtedly, The Armageddon Concerto, their collaboration with the extreme metal boundary pushers ‘extraordinair’ Enslaved, will be one of the many highlights of Roadburn 2010.
