R.I.P. Steve Reid (1944 – 2010)

Jazz drummer Steve Reid has died in New York at the age of 66.

Steve Reid (January 29, 1944 – April 13, 2010) was an American jazz drummer who played with a wide range of artists including Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, James Brown, Fela Kuti and Sun Ra, and as a session drummer for Motown. He was named JAZZIZs “Percussionist of the Year” in 1993 and 1995.
Reid’s close friend, DJ Gilles Peterson, broke the news of his death on Twitter today, writing: “Devastated by the news that my friend drummer Steve Reid passed away last night in New York – a true inspiration who will be greatly missed.” (via)
