R.I.P. Peter Steele (Type O Negative) (1962 – 2010)
TYPE O NEGATIVE frontman Peter Steele, born Petrus T. Ratajczyk, is rumored to have died of heart failure yesterday. That’s what different sources post on the interwebs the past few hours. The death news has been confirmed by fellow bandmate Kenny Hickey. Also, keyboardist Josh Silver has confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET that the band’s frontman, Peter Steele, passed away.
Back in 2005, many people were shocked when they logged on to the TYPE O NEGATIVE web site and saw a gravestone with the words “[P]eter Steele – 1962 – 2005 …. Free At Last” carved on it. According to Epinions.com, there were rumors at the time that Steele was sick (with anything from cancer to AIDS), was on his deathbed, attempted suicide … and the list goes on. Needless to say, it turned out that Steele was very much alive and the gravestone was merely a joke, albeit one the wasn’t viewed as being in particularly good taste. Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal group FALLOUT and the thrash band CARNIVORE.

Hey, I really don’t believe this bullsh*t. They already spread such rumour some time ago and stultified theirselves.
If it’s true, then I’m sorry for writing this. But to make jokes with the death of someone is NOT funny at all.

Yeah so what if the band had confirmed it? Does that make it true? It really could be another hoax for all we know. It doesn’t say anything from authorities or what hospital he was taken to or anything from the coroner. So I’m kind of skeptical as well, as long as I get more proof and NOT just from Roadrunner or his bandmates.

Sad news. I just heard about this on Howard Stern. Peter was a former Stern guest and Type O Negative was on the soundtrack for the Howard Stern movie Private Parts.

3 weeks ago i was counting time beetwen one album and next of Type O Negative, to have the time aprox when a new TON cd could be made…
Never more (at least if there is some recorded material, but isn’t the same the post works…)

Very, very sad. He will now become a legend. Not only was he a great composer/musician, he believed in helping the community. Even after the “fame and fortune” he remained a garbage man for the city of brooklyn up until the day he died. Bless his soul. “No Hope=No Fear”

There was always something about Peter Steele that seemed to be from another time and place.
He was very much a Brooklyn tough with a blue-collar job, self-deprecating wit, and a big RC family, but he would have been just as believable as a Gladiator of Ancient Rome…or a Viking…or, more aptly, Rasputin.
Maybe he was…maybe he really was the Mad Monk…just reincarnated. The piety and the demons.
Surely this man is not dead…he is merely Dead, Again.
He is just gone back to the plane from whence he came, that is all, and we must be grateful for the years we had his considerable talent, spirit, and stature, in our time.
For there were Giants in the Earth then, that there are not, now.
And our world is smaller and paler without him.
Farewell, Petrus…We Love You To Death.

Still can’t believe it… I pray to God to this to be another joke from the band, if it is, I will get angry at them, obviously, but at least I will know that the person I admire the most is not gone. Please, guys in the band, if this is a joke tell us! I can’t accept it, I can’t believe it. I have been about to cry for days already. It was just too soon! We needed another album, another tour. You know, I think this happened because of the drugs abuse, he may had died of an overdose, since the official autopsy results has not been announced yet, the only thing you did wrong in your life was getting into cocaine and alcohol.

I seriously can’t believe this… unreal. Not even 2 weeks ago I was hanging with friends and singing along to “Black No. 1″. Not even 2 months ago, I introduced my cousin to Carnivore. Now, one of my idols is gone, crushes the hopes of seeing Type O Negative live… I’ll definitely miss ya, man. Fan since I was 6.

…tja, so ist das Leben,es endet immer mit dem Tod. In diesem Falle, leider mal wieder viel zu früh obwohl..wer weiss, was ihm alles erspart geblieben ist.
