This Saturday Incubate will curate a stage at the Europe Mania Festival. The festival takes place in Pécs, Hungary from the 6th until the 8th of may. On may 8th Incubate will host the Brewery stage.
Hester Scheurwater has been featured on this blog many times before and has participated in different Incubate related projects in the past. On this year’s Incubate as well as on Europe Mania she can be seen with her Wildbeaming project.
Hester Scheurwater is a visual artist from The Hague, Netherlands. She makes video installations, video projections in public space and experimental films that are shown at festivals worldwide (including IFFR, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin), museums/galleries (Brooklyn Museum New York, CCCB Barcelona) and TV. In 2001 her work was nominated for the Prix de Rome Film/Video 2002.
Apart from this, Hester makes extensive use of Web 2.0 applications and social media to show her work. See for example her daily uploads of semi-nude selfportrets to her blog and facebook, which got her banned several times from facebook and other social media sites. Also, she constantly comes up new ideas and projects that place her work outside the context of the museum and in the attention of the media and of other artists.
Wildbeaming is a temporary form of graffiti, an intervention in the ordinary street scene at night with high visibility, an urban setting as a temporary museum for modern art. At different locations the (unexpected) viewer is confronted with huge projected images using a beamer and the urban surroundings as a screen. The videos engage in a relationship with these surroundings, creating a different context and experience of the place. Not a rectangular video projection on a beautiful white exterior, but a video projection that blends into the architecture of a building in the street or in the form of a tree or other organic form.
This Saturday on Europe Mania, in September on Incubate. Don’t miss this very impressive Wildbeaming project!
