[inQ&A] Circle Bros

June 25, 2010

Only three more months until Incubate 2010. For the past few months we’ve been announcing new artists every week. But with 200 + artists coming up in September we can imagine you losing your hold. That’s why we compiled the Incubate 2010 Spotify playlist (http://incu.at/spotify). Subscribing to this playlist will get you acquainted with most of the Incubate 2010 bands.

Apart from their music, part of the getting-to-know-them-better-proces will also be us asking some of the artists a few questions in the upcoming months. The twenty-third edition in a series:

Circle Bros

1.Can you please introduce yourself?
I’m wim – i’ve been making music as circle bros for the past ten -twelve years or so. It started as an instrumental drone-thing, but throughout the years, the sound came a bit more diverse – plenty of vocals these days as well, and I often use pop or folkmelodies as a basis. I’ve just put out a new record -my first full length in 8 years or so. I did a bunch of collabs and eps though.

2.Where are you at the moment?

In Ghent, Belgium – I’ve been living here since i moved out of Hiversum, the Netherlands in 2006.

3.Have you played in the Netherlands before and if so, what’s your view on or experience with the scene you’re operating in in The Netherlands?
I did a few small shows in peoples basements and such. But since I lived in Utrecht and Hilversum for 5 years, I think I pretty much know what’s going. I also run a small label, Morc Records, with a few Dutch artists on it (the Puddle Parade, who also plays on incubate this year) and Soccer Committee (who played here a few years ago. so I feel quite at home in the Netherlands. and it’s the perfect occasion to grab some ‘roze koeken’ at Albert Heijn.

4.What can we expect of your gig at the Incubate Festival?
Normally, I’ll play solo, using vocals, guitars, tapeloops, a bunch of effects and smaller instruments (xylophone, stylophone). I’ll play a few older and more recent songs, and throw in a few covers of whatever I’m listening to at that very moment. My sets are normally quite short, so I guess there won’t be any time to get bored.

5.What are your plans for the (near) future?
I just did a few new releases: an lp, haven, on Morc, and an ep, you’ll be missed, on orphanology. So I guess it’s time to work on some new stuff now, and maybe do a few shows apart from Incubate as well…
