I’d never expected being surprised by a new Menomena record. Their three previous records were nice and solid so were their live shows. But their latest efford Mines caught me totally off guard. It opens almost like Spoon’s Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga with Queen Black Acid a song that doesn’t give you any clue on where these guys are heading. The epic Killemall does show you where Menomena is leading you: musical heaven. And with Tythe and Lunchmeat it’s clear: singer Brent Knopf is on a mission. Combining fresh compositions and true musicality with asphyxiating words of surrealistic threats and the demise of all that’s worth living for.
