[Incubated 08] interview with Moon Duo

April 27, 2011

Next week Paradox will be the home for another Incubated edition! This edition will feature Barn Owl, Moon Duo, Kim Ki O and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. Today we have an interview with Ripley from Moon Duo. You can read the questions below. We have some more interviews with Incubated artists coming up so be on the look out for more this week!

1. Can you please introduce yourself?
We are a duo from San Francisco, currently living in the mountains in Colorado. We’ve been making music together since 2009 and just released our debut full-length, Mazes, on Souterrain Transmissions. We have two previous EPs on Woodsist and Sacred Bones.

2. Have you played in the Netherlands before and if so, what’s your view on or experience with the scene you’re operating in in The Netherlands?
I’ve played in the Netherlands a few times, with Moon Duo and my other band Wooden Shjips. It’s hard to generalize about a country but we’ve had very positive experiences. I know there are some people very dedicated to psychedelic music and supporting that type of scene in the Netherlands. It’s also striking, coming from the US, how much public support there is for the arts in general.

3. What can we expect of your gig at Incubated?
We try to bring an immersive experience to our shows, with music and also video projections. We’ll be touring with a great Turkish band called Kim Ki O. And we’re really excited that our friends from San Francisco, Barn Owl, will be playing as well.

4. What do you think of the other acts playing at Incubated 08 (Barn Owl, Kim Ki O and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma)?
I don’t know Jefre Cantu-Ledesma’s music, but his label Root Strata is fantastic. As I mentioned, we’ll be touring with Kim Ki O and they’re lovely. I’ve played with Barn Owl before in San Francisco and they’re just amazing live. Should be a special night.

5. What are your plans for the (near) future?
We have a 6-week tour of Europe coming up, then we take a short vacation before going to Los Angeles to work on material for the next record. And we’ll probably record an EP, something short, at home in June.
