Yesterday was yet another amazing day at Incubate 2011. With performances by Rainbow Arabia, Lightning Dust, HEALTH and Tweak Bird it was a day to remember. Also the Play Me I’m Yours project is receiving lots of positive feedback. For now, it’s time to move along, so what can you expect to see at Incubate today?
One of the project that will kick off today at 13:00 at the Paradox is After School Avant Garde. This program wants to offer participation for kids in this year’s Incubate. There’s drumming lessons with and by Holland’s best and legendary jazz drummer Han Bennink, painting with Kati Heck, creating new sounds with Sylvain Chauveau, performing with Peter Fengler & Hans Zimmerman’s magic show and stepping into Felix Kubin’s personal universe. Creativity, fantasy, art and experiment are key, but the main inspiration point remains fun! this program aims at children between 4 and 12.
Also performing at the Duvelhok is Elke Meirsman who studied oboe at the Conservatory of Antwerp, the School of Music and Dance in Rotterdam and at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. She gained orchestra experience at the Brussels Philharmonic, Il Novecento, Cologne Academy, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Beethoven Academy, the Chamber Orchestra of Flanders and various other chamber orchestras. Impressive list, right? At Incubate, Elke will play with Vinko Globokar and Isang Yun.
Film
Just like yesterday, we’ve got the Open Source Film program. Anybody could submit their video work to us for a place on the big screen. We put the best movies and shorts together for this program. Up on the big screen for the film program today is Trash Humpers. This movie by Harmony Korine gives us a peek into the lives of an imaginary group of elderly people, with what seems to be a home movie in which they film eachother and their daily routines. It looks and feels like found footage, like stuff on a strange videotape found in the trash somewhere. Whether you love it or hate it, this film really is one of a kind.
Music program
Starting off at eight o’ clock in the Paradox is Sleep Party People (pictured below). Performing at the Hollandse Nieuwe stage in Cul de Sac today are Woud, Vakantie and Ford & Lopatin. Also performing as a part of the After School Avant Garde, Felix Kubin will also do a liveset during the evening. And what about a performance by the legendary Han Bennink, After coming up on the freejazz and improv music scene Han founded the Instant Composers Pool, a group of Dutch avant-garde musicians who play together on and off. At night it’s time to put your dancing shoes on, for a really cool audio/video set by Nosaj Thing. Think Burial meets Flying Lotus. Really cool stuff to spend your Wednesday night at!
