[Listen] Newest album releases on Spotify!

October 28, 2011

At the Incubate HQ we decided that we’re going to try something new. A weekly post on friday with the latest album releases on Spotify! This means we’re going to put the newest records on here for you to listen! In stead of only wishing you a nice weekend, we also want you to have a soundtrack for the weekend. What to expect? Records who have Incubate in them, variating the different styles in today’s music. This week, week 43, there are allot of releases and we picked out five albums from Christina Vantzou, James Ferraro, Russian Circles, Strange Boys and Battant.

Christina Vantzou - Nº1

Describing Christina Vantzou is difficult because she is many things, an artist, musician and composer. Over the past decade she made drawings, prints, animations, videos and video installations. After touring with two different bands, The Dead Texan and Sparklehorse, she decided, in 2007, to make her own music/sounds and started to make compositions. The album titled Nº1, is a first installment of a planned series of recordings by Christina with an orchestra component. The album Nº1 is ambient, experimental and instrumental.

James Ferraro – Far Side Virtual

‘I am Flinstones’ is the best way to sum up James Ferraro, underground musician/composer/virtual atmospherist. A man with very different styles, best described as ambient modern world/psych. His latest album ‘Far Side Virtual’ has some very funny song titles, like Palm Trees, WI-FI and Dream Sushi is an example. He draws influences from many different places, and you’ll definetely hear that in his music!

Russian Circles – Empros

Russian Circles is a instrumental rock/metal band from Chicago. Mixing the instrumental, with heavy metal, to softer spots in their songs. This it the second album in this Spotify list that is completely instrumental! Russian Circles are known for their live shows, using many samples, loop pedals to create different layers and allot of pedals to create an unique live sound. Empros is their fourth record and it’s a darker and doomier sound than the previous albums on this list.

Strange Boys – Live Music

This album was on our blog recently, and now it’s on Spotify to! The sextet band from Texas, brought us a country/American influenced album. The album can easily divided in two pieces/or two EPs. With the first side, that sounds like a live recording but gives a clear and solid sound. Opposite the first side, is ofcourse the second side, which is more adventurous and ‘looser’. A very fine, laidback album for you to chill with in the weekend.

Battant – As I Ride With No Horse

Battant is the french word for fighting, and this is a word that fits with the band! There are three band members, Chloé, Tim and Joel and they have played with Primal Scream and Two Lone Swordsmen. Battant was formed in 2006 and they have a new album out called ‘As I ride with no horse’. The vocals are very raw but feminine, over the tech-electro, guitar sounds! A nice autumn soundtrack.
