Le Guess Who? is a music festival that is situated in the city of Utrecht. It’s an ever changing format for creative, daring and refreshing scenes and they aim to bring you some nice experiences. There will be bands and artists performing at various indoor locations, like Tivoli, EKKO, Kargadoor, dB’s, ACU, Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh and RASA. The Le Guess Who? festival is coming soon, the weekend of 24- 27 November and we have some tips for you! Vincent Koreman, artistic director of Incubate, is the first one to give 5 tips for the festival. Here they are:

Afro Futuristic hiphop brought to you by an ex Digable Planets rapper. What else could you possibly need to know? Shabazz Palaces blend their African heritage with modern production and tales from the city in the best oral tradition of the tribes before the slave trade era and claim their place in the African diaspora anno 2011. Or 2031. Or 2091. Excellent live shows with traditional headgear, clothing and ultra-futuristic, bass heavy music.

Simply one of the best concerts I have witnessed in the 7 years we have been doing Incubate was the 2010 concert of Zola Jesus. Stridulum II was also the only album me and my girlfriend both bought in that year, and that is saying a lot. I loved it for the killer hooks and cool old school electro/new wave production, she loved it for the beautiful haunting voice and the lyrics. So there you go.
Zola Jesus – Vessel

One of the best garage rock/lo-fi freak out bands around at the moment. Almost at Purling Hiss level of brilliance… best enjoyed with a slight buzz on. You need to grab their Police Water record from last year because it like, totally rocks man!!!
(Gary War shall also perform on Incubated 12, together with R. Stevie Moore!)
Clouds Went That Way by Gary War

We’ve had Sluga play at one of the early editions of Trigga, the longest running dubstep night in Holland, and even though he didn’t play any dubstep at all, he totally killed it. Our regular visitors, mostly kids with issues (let’s face it, dubstep has become the heavy metal of the 2000′s, drawing a crowd of 16 year olds that don’t know what to do with themselves emotionally…), were surprised at first, stunned at second and finally going berserk with a crazy ass mosh pit. I predict this scenario will repeat itself at Le Guess Who.
KITTENS (FREE DL!!) by SLUGABED

Truly legendary band with ties to that other great German band To Rococo Rot (Ronald Lippok plays in both bands). Tarwater sounds a bit more organic though and for some reason, the former east resonates a bit more in their music. They used to be on Kitty Yo, back when those guys were still defining the German underground, both have since moved on the great Morr label, a fitting home for their instrumental post rock with electronic influences.
