[Art] Illustrations made with individual letters

November 15, 2011

Australian artist Erin Smith made these awesome and interesting illustrations. She is using individual letters to form an image.

“Using individual letters I am building new images responding to the deconstructed passage of text / thoughts etc, creating a visual journal exploring the idea that words can have many different meanings and be associated with a number of different objects all dependent on the viewer.

My current collection of work explores thoughts of power, comfort and beauty.

The text is gathered from journals, then broken apart. Each letter then becomes a shape/tone that is then used to create the new image. In my newest work the image is a mixture of digital and directly hand drawn in a type of automatic writing process.”
