[Art] Surgical graphic artwork

November 21, 2011

Graphic Surgery is one awesome duo! Erris Huigens and Gysbert Zijlstra, both from Amsterdam, create graphic surgical artwork. Does that make any sense? They construct bits and pieces from photos and reconstruct them into altered images by use of digital editing, scanning, printing, photocopying and stencil technique. They cut and paste, make collages, paintings and drawings, usually on walls.

‘Walls are one of many surfaces we love to apply our work to. Our work is strongly influenced by city elements. The city is mostly built up out of walls, so it is simply a perfect surface to apply it to. One could say our work belongs to walls.’

It’s best if you watch the video below, you’ll see exactly how they do it and the term Graphic Surgery will fit.
