Incubate tips: Le Guess Who? festival #2

November 22, 2011

Le Guess Who?
is a music festival that is situated in the city of Utrecht. It’s an ever changing format for creative, daring and refreshing scenes and they aim to bring you some nice experiences. There will be bands and artists performing at various indoor locations, like Tivoli, EKKO, Kargadoor, dB’s, ACU, Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh and RASA.  The Le Guess Who? festival is coming soon, the weekend of 24- 27 November and we have some tips for you! Vincent gave his tips already. Now Peter Meeuwsen, promoter at Incubate, is the second one to give 5 tips for the festival. Here they are:

John Maus

John Maus performances are as weird as they are amazing. When i saw him he was only singing his own backing vocals while totally freaking out to his eighties sounding synth pop. It felt completely honest and as an ironic comment at the same time, and so does his music.

Stranded Horse

In a previous life Yann Tambour was known as the person behind french post-rock band Encre. As Stranded Horse he’s making the most beautiful folk music. This is how Nick Drake would’ve sounded if he had learned French and played the kora.

Iceage

After the Arab Spring and Occupy Wallstreet there’s now the New Way Of Danish Fuck You. Iceage is the first band to emerge from this new Copenhagen scene. Loud and wild kids, making the most urgent punk rock songs i heard in a while. Fuck yeah!
Iceage – New Brigade

Bill Callahan

Bill Callahan made some brilliant lo-fi records as Smog in the nineties. His last two records under his own name prove that after twenty years he is still one of the best songwriters of our time. Was dating Joanna Newsom the inspiration for the amazing arrangements on these last two records?
Bill Callahan: Apocalypse

Rats On Rafts

I saw these guys opening for Jay Reatard and they were great! Two years later they have now finally finished their excellent debut album The Moon Is Big, proving to be the most exciting dutch band of the moment.
