Incubate tips: Le Guess Who? festival #3

November 23, 2011

Le Guess Who? is a music festival that is situated in the city of Utrecht. It’s an ever changing format for creative, daring and refreshing scenes and they aim to bring you some nice experiences. There will be bands and artists performing at various indoor locations, like Tivoli, EKKO, Kargadoor, dB’s, ACU, Vredenburg Leeuwenbergh and RASA.  The Le Guess Who? festival is coming soon, the weekend of 24- 27 November and we have some tips for you! Vincent and Peter gave their tips already. Now Frank Kimenai, operations and finances director at Incubate, is the second one to give 5 tips for the festival. Here they are:

Endless Boogie

Endless Boogie have been around for quite a while, but only now seem to be emerging from the abyss of the underground jam rock scene. I guess they pretty much live up to their name. If you are into 70′s psychedelic jamrock, I suggest you smoke a fat one just before seeing them and let yourself get carried away with this awesome live band.

I Break Horses

I Break Horses: check this out if you are into layered shoegazer music. The inevitable My Bloody Valentine reference is always there, but that’s not per se a bad thing. What I really like is the contrast between the “human” vocals and the eerie, cold music.

The Devil’s Blood

The Devil’s Blood: a lot has been written and said about TDB. I have been following this band since their first show and saw them progress from a small underground band to a world class occult rock act. Their new release, The Thousandfold Epicentre, is one of the most important metal /rock releases of this year, and highly anticipated on an international level. Music wise, references are Jefferson Airplane, Roky Erickson and some Thin Lizzy, completed with black metal ethics and esthetics. Make sure to check this band out in a small room while you still can. Their rituals will stick with you for the rest of your days.

Mugstar

Mugstar is a heavy krautrock band from the UK. I coincidently saw them once a few years back on a festival in London, and booked them for Incubate the minute after the show. They sound like Neu, played by Neurosis, under spiritual guidance of Glen Branca… or something like that. Really amazing and mesmerizing.

Part Chimp

Part Chimp is the loudest band from East London and come to think of it, maybe the UK even. Make sure to catch them while you still can. This is allegedly their last tour. Absolute recommendation for people that are into heavy as fuck noiserock. No further explanation needed.
