The Caretaker is all about lost memories, amnesia and nostalgia to old times. Creating a deep beautiful, but sometimes sinister atmosphere he tries to take you back in your personal history through electronic ambient music. Pleasant memories, bad dreams, being alone in the dark, all these emotions overtake the listener. If you’ve seen the Kubrick movie ‘The Shining’, you will get an idea of the beautiful but disturbing feelings The Caretaker tries to evoke.
His latest cd ‘An Empty Bliss Beyond This World’ sounds like an ode to 50′s ballroom music. Old pianos and trumpets are whispering its melodies from a distance, over an old crisping record-player. It sends you back in time, and takes you on a journey to the unknown.
But Leyland Kirby doesn’t sit still. Next to releasing 3 EP’s under his own name, and aforementioned ‘An Empty Bliss…’-album, the next The Caretaker-album is already set to be released this month! So do we know what to expect from The Caretaker? Not really. But we know that this will be one of the most unusual things you will see this year. And we know that the music will be gorgeous.
