From the 14th until the 16th of September, Damo Suzuki settles in Tilburg to play 3 shows in 3 unique formations. Everyone can join, from visitors to international musicians of each skill, background and age.
Being part of the Damo Suzuki Network is a very unique experience. As René van Lien (Neon Rainbows) puts it: “I love playing with Damo Suzuki, he’s a legend. His way of music making is very intuitive and is driven by his extraordinary personality. I’ve done a few shows with Damo and each time the sound was totally different. Most surprising is the fact that you often are more happy with what is created accidentally than with playing a predetermined set. You’ll remember this man and he probably will give you something you keep with you the rest of your life.”
Besides René, other musicians who are playing with their bands at Incubate are happy to join Damo. To name a few: by now, Greg Haines, Cian Nugent and members of Messer, Mi Ami, Thread Pulls, Vindicatrix and Ancient Ocean will perform during one of the shows.
“While a song that’s played live is usually just the version of a recorded song, Damo Suzuki denies the existence of an actual song – his “network” only performs versions. These versions are somewhat of a psychological survey: they let the intuitive appear on the surface. More than that, they even let the intuitive appear on stages. Musicians usually don’t go on stages as naked as this. If it’s for Damo, we’ll gladly go stripped down to the bone.” (Pogo & Philipp // Messer
It should be clear by now: not only krautrock musicians feel the need to play with Damo. For example, the neo-classical musician Greg Haines says: “The opportunity to perform with him is one that I take great pride in, and I can’t wait to hear the results! Damo’s idea of connecting “sound carriers” from around the world is a great one – his openness to new personal and musical experiences is admirable.”
Already 23 musicians have signed up, but there are still some places left. Unfortunately, we can’t place more drummers anymore. Especially if you play keys, strings or an unusual instrument you are very welcome to join.
