[The Spying Glass] Scene report E-hoven

July 6, 2012

“If you can’t be them, see them.” The next best thing. Incubate is slowly building up the tension, with monthly scene reports. Last Friday, I decided to go. Just to see and hear what our semi local scene has to offer. It turned out to be a night to remember. A night that also made me think about jealousy and drugs. An interesting cocktail of thoughts and feelings…

Incubate Scene Report: Eindhoven in Tilburg’s Cul de Sac. I’ve read a lot about Eindhoven’s indie scene. Music that sometimes makes me jealous. Jealous of the simple fact that I’m not able to make music myself. Well… I could try. But I’m pretty sure it won’t turn into something people will remember in a positive way. My jealousy made me decide to join in the only way I could: see them. Capcap…cap, Daisy Bell and Klaus Womb & Penny Super Pony Strip. The line-up for the night.  It turned out to be a roller coaster for my musical taste. The one and only conclusion after seeing and hearing all three acts, was that Eindhoven is in desperate need of a new name.

“Indiehoven.” That’s what I read a little while ago. Nice. Last Friday proved that Eindhoven has more to offer though. Serious mood swings! Maybe it had something to do with drinking club sodas. I don’t know. My feelings went up and down and up again. At a more than steady pace. Capcap…cap made me happy, Daisy Bell nothing less than terrified and Klaus Womb & Penny Super Pony Strip…. Well… I guess a bit of both. Mixed with a desire to jump and pull out the hair that I don’t have. Three bands, one frenzy. On club soda. Four enthusiastic thumbs up! And Eindhoven renamed as Indiehoven? I guess that’s old news within a month.

E-hoven – no need for speed.

I can’t wait for the next scene report or – even much better – the start of Incubate 2012. If I can’t be them, I’ll go and see them. Maybe I should visit a doctor before and have some valium prescribed. Just to be able to stay in control of myself during the festival.

[Friday Afternoon Silliness] Terrible Trap Songs (mutilating songs you used to love)

May 17, 2013

ruiz-trappen-23-03--22-b

Trap is all the rage these days, sparking internet memes and making tiny white kids seem cooler by proxy. But as we all know, when a “new” genre comes to town -brandishing legitimately interesting music- people hurdle over each other to take that “new” genre and paste it on everything in sight… and it is terrifying.  This all [...]
