Less than two months until Incubate 2012. For the past few months we’ve been announcing new artists every week. But with 200 + artists coming up in September we can imagine you losing your hold. That’s why we compiled the Incubate 2012 Spotify playlist. Subscribing to this playlist will get you acquainted with most of the bands. Apart from their music, part of the getting-to-know-them-better-proces will also be us asking some of the artists a few questions in the upcoming months. Here are 6 questions for Blood Beach:
Blood Beach is: Camella Weedon (Theremin, Mandolin, Sax) Cody Seals (Drums) Ethan Jayne (Bass) Shane Wright (Guitar, Vocals)
Q: What is it that a band should definitely not do on stage while performing?
Shane: We do not approve of: smiling at the audience, smiling at one another.
Cody: Don’t eat a burger right before you play the drums.
Ethan: You really should not give the audience instructions or suggestions on how to sing along, dance, clap to, etc. your song.
Cody: Well, unless you’re The Boss, in which case you can do whatever you please.
Q: Best album cover, except for your own of course?
Camella: Dick Hyman & Mary Mayo- Moon Gas
Shane: Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath! or any of the Repka covers, or those Kittelsen covers Burzum used to use, or those early Darkthrone records or any heavy metal album cover or Meatloaf cover.
Ethan: I’m still searching for my long lost copy of Heavy Metal Dub by Prince Jammy & Scientist. The cover is a badass rasta warrior riding a space ship like Teen Wolf and shooting lasers. (Song titles include “Party on the Enterprise” and “Jah Love All Aliens”)
Cody: Slits Cut, Dwarves Blood, Guts and Pussy, John and Yoko Unfinished Music #1: Two Virgins, anything with full frontal nudity.
Ethan: Our LP cover art was loosely inspired by the screenprinted first edition of Deerhoof’s Milk Man, so that deserves a shout out as well.
Q: Facts or fiction?
Ethan: Facts, but only the holy-shit-no-way weirdest of the super weird facts. (See: Florida bath salts zombie attack, critters from the deepest darkest parts of the ocean, the real life Weekend at Bernies dudes, etc.)
Shane: If you choose facts then you’re leaving out Fantasy and Sci-Fi though.
Camella: Fantasy is bullshit. I’m into hard Sci-Fi.
Cody: This whole interview could be fiction and you’d have no way of knowing.
Q: Ever had the urge to just cancel a gig because of a bad reason?
Ethan: Anyone who claims they have never rolled up to venue while on tour, gotten bad/weird vibes, and immediately felt that pit of the stomach urge to just keep driving is either a liar or they’ve never gone on a DIY tour of the US. Those shows usually end up just fine, or at least something to laugh about in the van later.
Q: Some of the Incubate artists come to the festival to see other artists they admire. Are you going to check out any Incubate artists and why? Shane: Unfortunately we have to keep moving, but so bummed we will miss Chris & Cosey, Nurse With Wound, Damo Suzuki, Expo 70, Ramesses, and others!!!
Q: What do you think to expect from Incubate festival? We play September 11 and expect nothing less than the darkest day of horror the world has ever known. Thank you Incubate, you rule! We cannot wait to get to Tilburg!
Thanks to Blood Beach for this interview. Let them get your teenage werewolf howling inside you on September 11 in Cul de Sac (free show).
