Meet the pigs that are going to destroy the letter ‘S’ for Santiago Sierra

August 10, 2012

Santiago Sierra will perform the latest installment of his The Destroyed Word saga at Incubate 2012. One of ten exclusive performances in which one letter of the word capitalism is destroyed each time by those affected by this global system. Installments of The Destroyed Word have been presented in Berlin, Paris, New Delhi, Papua New-Guinea and Brazil. Now Tilburg is added to that list.

As a part of the word ‘capitalism’, a 3,5 meter high character S will be created, entirely made of fruit and vegetables, ready to be eaten by pigs. A clear nod to the massive pig-farming industry that can be found in the province of Noord-Brabant. We visited organic farm de Beukentuin  to meet the pigs who are rehearsing the performance of their lives.
