[InQ&A] 6 questions for Black To Comm (and Vindicatrix)

August 23, 2012

Less than a month until Incubate 2012. For the past few months we’ve been announcing new artists every week. But with 200 + artists coming up in September we can imagine you losing your hold. That’s why we compiled the Incubate 2012 Spotify playlistSubscribing to this playlist will get you acquainted with most of the bands. Apart from their music, part of the getting-to-know-them-better-proces will also be us asking some of the artists a few questions in the upcoming months. Here are your answers by Marc Richter (MR) of Black To Comm and Renate Nikolaus (RN) and David Aird (DA) aka Vindicatrix, who already could welcome in 2010 .

Best album cover, except for your own of course?

Marc Richter: “Ich schäme mich Gedanken zu haben die andere Menschen in ihrer Würde verletzen” by Mutter. Brown covers are kind of underrated; and I like artworks with words only. It’s kind of hard to seperate the artwork from the title and the music though, especially here.
Renate Nikolaus: Stock, Hausen & Walkman – Organ Transplants 1. I love organ playing hamsters!
David Aird: Sulk by the Associates.

What is it that a band should definitely not do on stage while performing?

MR: Sleep? I know at least two people who fell asleep on stage at one point. And they were not Laptop performers. And they didn’t stop playing!
RN: Damage my ears.
DA: Apologise.

Facts or fiction?

RN: Fictitious facts.
MR: One man’s fact is another man’s fiction.
DA: We need fictions to comprehend the world….but when push comes to shove I’d say I’m more for facts.

Ever had the urge to just cancel a gig because of a bad reason?

MR: Every single time (but I never did, except when I broke my foot and leg which is probably a good excuse).
DA: Not that I can think of.
RN: I was supposed to play a short funny play on stage when I was a child -  as it came to my part, I had to laugh so much about it, that I couldn’t play to the end.  My parents were very disappointed. They never talked about it since…..

Some of the Incubate artists come to the festival to see other artists they admire. Are you going to check out any Incubate artists and why?

DA: I’m definitely going to see Chris and Cosey and will probably try to catch Moodymann as he always brings the party. Maria and the Mirrors are good friends and unfailingly ferocious live.
MR: I’ll be there on Sunday only so I will probably try to see Laibach. Otherwise I would recommend checking out Chris & Cosey, Black Dice, Charles Hayward, Nurse With Wound, Bill Orcutt…..

What do you think to expect from Incubate festival?

MR: People running around in circles.
DA: Last time I came I didn’t really have much time left over after performing but enjoyed myself thoroughly supping fine ales with Sean and The Baron. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the festival this time – the line up is killer.

At Incubate, Black To Comm will present his latest effort together with Vindicatrix: Earth, a live soundtrack for Ho Tzu Nyens silent film that will be showed simultaneous.

[Heavy Sunday] Heart In Hand

May 19, 2013

Heart In Hand is a band I’ve been following since their birth. Over the years they’ve grown as a band and eventually found their [...]
