[Read] The Quietus’ preview on Incubate 2012

September 3, 2012

Our friends of The Quietus just published an preview on our festival, which will take place in exactly two weeks time. As well as being present at the festival, they programmed their own ‘Quietus Presents’ route of artists that runs right through the weekend of Friday 14th to Sunday 16th. It features some of their favourite musicians, among them Mogwai, British Sea Power, Andy Stott, Nurse With Wound and the mighty Laibach. The Quietus will also be hosting a series of panel discussions at Incubate’s DIY Conference, which will be taking place on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th September at De NWE Vorst in Tilburg.

Next week, the Quietus office will be decamping to Tilburg, the Netherlands, for 2012′s edition of the annual Incubate Festival of Independent Culture. It’s been running since 2005, and over that period of time has developed into a rather unique prospect: a festival that cuts right across boundaries of genre and scene. Instead it’s more interested in the attitudes and approaches that inform artists’ work, making for a bill which, this year for example, sees British Sea Power sitting on the bill next to Raime, Laibach and Moodymann. A diverse selection indeed.

The Quietus are pleased to be media partners for this year’s edition of the festival, which runs in a variety of venues across the city from 10th-16th September. As well as being present at the festival, dotting about from venue to venue and catching what the line-up’s got to offer, we’ve programmed our own ‘Quietus Presents’ route of artists that runs right through the weekend of Friday 14th to Sunday 16th. It features some of our favourite musicians, among them Mogwai (whose Stuart Braithwaite spoke to us ahead of the festival to discuss some of his favourite albums), former Throbbing Gristle duo Chris & Cosey, British Sea Power, knackered techno innovator Andy Stott, Evangelista, Nurse With Wound and the mighty Laibach. See further down the page for the full ‘Quietus Presents…’ list.

June 18, 2013

Chris Moss has a mother. And that mother approves of acid house. We can’t help but feel that if Chris Moss’ mother would have been prime-minister instead of Margaret Thatcher, that the Acid House movement would have been -for better or for worse- very different.  Here is Chris’ mom, approving of her son playing acid [...]
