This Friday and Saturday, Arnhem will be hosting the excellent Aurora Infernalis festival. Among headliners like ex-Incubate artist Aura Noir and Primordial (also to be seen at next Roadburn), they’ve also invited some really cool lesser-known but high-regarded acts, like Funeral Winds and Archgoat.
Here are the three acts we think you cannot miss:
One of those bands that you don’t read about in all the hyped up black metal books or latest bm documentaires, but Isvind have been making their mark in the underground since their release ‘The Call of the Ice Wind’ in 1992. Staying away from the mainstream bm brand, last year Isvind released their first full-length in fifteenth years, to great critical acclaim.
These crazy Norwegians have only released two demos and two ep’s to this date, but are setting black hearts aflame all over Europe already. Their performance last year in Brussels, with The Devil’s Blood and Urfaust, was promising to say the least, and we’re not surprised that there comeback there this year was sold out in a day. Now they’re in Holland for the first time to show what the newest wave of Norwegian black metal is up to.
Being the birthplace of both Sarke (the bm allstar band with among others Darkthrone’s Nocturno Culto) and Khold, the influence of Tulus can easily be seen on modern black metal. They were never about image, but all about riffs and attitude. And as this is their first Benelux show, and they released a new album this year, there’s every reason to see these legendary men at work in Arnhem.
