Ook voor komende editie in september 2012 zoekt Incubate in Tilburg weer stagiair(e)s om ervaring op te doen binnen de marketingafdeling. Vanaf januari/februari is er weer plek voor twee enthousiaste en leergierige stagelopers die willen meehelpen met het organiseren van een uitgebreid kunstfestival en de maandelijkse concerten.

Incubate is een festival dat dwars door alle genres opereert en verschillende doelgroepen aanspreekt. Elk genre en kunstvorm heeft zijn eigen blogs, zijn eigen magazines en eigen plekken waar liefhebbers samenkomen. Het is jouw taak om deze verschillende media te bereiken. Ook het bijhouden van social media als Twitter, Facebook en Last.fm behoort tot je taken.

Toffe functies in het cultuurveld zijn niet dik gezaaid. Daarom vragen we wel wat van je: je hebt affiniteit met het werkveld van Incubate, een goede pen en bent fulltime beschikbaar tot en met augustus (beschikbaarheid tot en met september is een pre). Wij verwachten een actieve werkhouding en een gezond enthousiasme voor, en een brede kennis van (independent) cultuur.

Bij ons kan je als niche-marketingstagiair(e):
-  Ervaring op doen in een jonge flexibele organisatie
-  Je netwerk in het culturele veld vergroten
-  Werken in een prettige omgeving
-  Voor een groot deel je eigen lijnen uitzetten en ideeën uitvoeren
-  Je werktijden flexibel inzetten
-  Zien hoe een culturele organisatie werkt van binnenuit

Als je tussen 18 en 30 jaar bent en beschikt over:
-  Een relevante opleiding (media, communicatie, eventmanagement, journalistiek, etc.)
-  Goede schriftelijke vaardigheden
-  Uitstekende beheersing van de Engelse taal (Duits en/of Frans is een pre)
-  Een nauwkeurige en zelfstandige manier van werken
-  Minimaal HBO denkniveau
-  De wil om independent culture te ontdekken en te delen met anderen

Uiteraard ben je actief op verschillende sociale media, ben je zeer geinteresseerd in independent culture en wil je je handen uit de mouwen steken.

De taak is om verschillende doelgroepen in te lichten over Incubate en haar programma. Dat doe je via
-  Actief gerelateerde blogs lezen en relaties met die blogs onderhouden
-  Berichten schrijven en plaatsen op Incubate blogs
-  Berichten schrijven voor andere social media (Facebook, Last.fm, Twitter etc.)
-  Het schrijven van artiestenbiografiëen voor website en festival guide
-  Het promoten van de maandelijkse Incubated-avonden
-  En het bijhouden van het persarchief.
Daarnaast is er de gelegenheid eigen ideen uit te werken en in de praktijk te brengen. Dit wordt ook aangemoedigd.

An EP, titled ‘polymers are forever‘ will be released on 11th November on Remote Control (Australia) and on 14th November on XtraMile (Britain and Europe) with an initial small amount of imports being shoveled the way of the USA, that land mass which is a little to the left of Wales. Pleased doesn’t quite cover it. The possibilities, literally, are end-ful.

Running order is ‘polymers are forever’(*1), ‘with apologies to emily pankhurst’(*2), ‘new adventures’, ‘my wife is unhappy’, ‘dry hate’ and ‘destroywhitchurch.com’. It has a running time somewhere in the region of twenty one minutes and is ‘very nice’ ((c) my mother, last week). The first three songs are taken from the album sessions (see below) whilst the final three are earlier demos we didn’t have the time, money or inclination to re-record. At this stage I have no earthly idea if the EP will end up being pressed on vinyl but the chances, as ever, are dramatically increased the more people ask.

Just saying.

‘polymers are forever’ (the song not the entire EP) will appear on the album ‘the plot against common sense‘, which will be released in early 2012. More about this later(*4). We are really VERY VERY HAPPY with this record, which is perhaps ONE DAY away from being finished, whenever we can fit that in; I would like to apologise in advance to my bandmates and the cat(*5) for how drunk I get upon its completion.

(*1) I have read some pretty demented comments about this song after just one radio play (and subsequent streaming). Gary Numan? Obvious Cure references? LIMP BIZKIT? None of these are things. None. Of. These. Listen again. With ears. EARS. (*3)
(*2) this is the DELIBERATE title of the song. A reviewer for a magazine, who shall remain nameless changed ‘emily’ to ‘emmeline’ on a setlist she was given earlier this year. How cute.
(*3) laptop speakers do not count.
(*4) and I ask you to interpret the word ‘later’ generously.(*7)
(*5) the odd seizure and shitting-on-the-doorstep episode aside, Chicken is doing well.

Watch this cool short experimental film/music video about a guy who looks at life through a scaffolding pipe (‘Steigerpijp means scaffolding pipe in Dutch). The actors featured in this film as well as the music were created by the Instant Composers Pool Orchestra (ICP), which is a group of jazz musicians from the Netherlands. In the video, the actors move fast, slowly, hardly or not at all through Amsterdam traffic. ‘Steigerpijp’ was taken from the online film program ‘The Milkbar’ which is featured on the LimboLand blog. Yesterday I had the great honor to go and pick up the MCN (Music Centre Netherlands) organised WORLD MUSIC AWARD for “BEST UP n COMING ACT or ORGANISATION”. Even though we’ve been fighting againts branding our blog as a ‘world music’ blog, it’s still a matter of big respect and recognition that we are even nominated. And to actually win it was something we never even thought was possible…

Since Holland was getting the royal WINTER treatment, it took me a long time to make it to Amsterdam, but these nice people were kind enough to wait it out before their tradedinner. So besides the honor and credit, we received a prize consisting of a cheque of 2000 euro, a statue that will get a prominent place at the INCUBATE HQ (the founding fathers of GB..)

We will spend the money to further GB of course and are thinking of doing something special at our annual event, but more on that will follow as soon as we know. So this one goes out to my brothers UMB and CABALLO, all our guest contributors and of course YOU, reader of this blog and last but certainly NOT LEAST all musicians and producers we’ve ever featured here… We will make sure to put this money to good use and make it flow back into the GB community!

That’s Frank‘s opinion on the frontman of Smashing Pumpkins and from now on, we share that opinion.

Let me explain.

It looks like the bald guy with the annoying voice needs some money and therefor asks a ridiculous amount of money for access to the ‘exclusive’ video and photo blog of the Smashing Pumpkins, which of Corgan is the only original band-member left. It’s a lousy 40$ for 12 weeks of updates (that’s 172$ per year!) where subscription to the average fanclub is about 40$ per year, and you’ll get

• at least 25 minutes of ‘unique’ audio/video material each week in at least 5 updates (5hrs in 12 weeks that is. Whoohoo!!!);
• footage shared within 24 hours of being recorded (YouTube is quicker);
• a negative bank account;
• no exclusive fanclub t-shirt.

Billy, dude. That’s bullshit. These days, you share all your thoughts, ideas, diaries and music via thinks like Twitter (you are on it but are barely sharing interesting things), MySpace (as long as it lasts), YouTube (ever heard of that?) and, we almost forgot, your very own website. The best of it: it’s free and available to all.

Most fun of all is that Billy Corgan states that it “is not profit motivated”. Why is this so expensive then? Where’s the money going to? You want to let your fans pay your salary of a few million dollars per year? Beside, with 40$ to subscribe, you won’t reach all your fans directly. The footage will leak  on the internet anyhow. Why would you let your beloved supporters pay this much to get a piece of you when it’s available for free shortly after publication?

Get awake man, we are living in 2009 and you are living in the land of the free. Wouldn’t that be a nice statement, to share the footage of your crappy one-man band for zero dollars, named after your well-known song?  Oh, no, that’s not an option. Because you’re old-fashioned. Just like an ugly potato.

Two months ago Generation Bass started its blog on non-western (dance) music and influences thereof. This week, the blog will welcome it’s 50.000th visitor !

Beside a blog, Generation Bass is a dance night too! It has it’s monthly night at Cul de Sac in Tilburg and this month there is a Generation Bass-A-Thon at 013 and Cul de Sac on April 29th and 30th. Ticket give-away on ZXZW Blog tomorrow !!

Went and ate at the artist meal hall and then went and saw THE SUN RA ARKESTRA.
Holy shit, I cried during their first song. Some of these guys have been with the band for 50 years. I never, ever thought I would see these people play music and tonight I went and saw them for the first time. The thing is, they’re playing one block away from our hotel FOR THE NEXT FIVE NIGHTS IN A ROW, two sets each night covering a decade of music each night. Tonight was big band standards like Ellington and such.
