London trio Factory Floor is coming back to the Netherlands again. The band, who have signed to James Murphy‘s DFA Records this fall, is coming at the 17th of May to Effenaar. With their music, which The Guardian describe as synth-noir, it sounds like they’re mixing modern-day electronic music with ’80s synthwave. That’s why it isn’t weird to hear that New Order drummer Stephen Morris is fan of the band and is working with them as we speak.

We have already two contests this week (tickets for INDIE INDIE and Chelsea Wolfe) and now we can add another one; We’re gonna give 2×2 tickets for this awesome gig where by the way NON-Records finest artists Palmbomen and Marius are playing as well. One month left to submit your Incubate app

Incubate launched the Incubate API to make all festival-data available for use in apps, websites or even art created by Incubate-minded developers. The Incubate API is an Ally API, a REST oriented JSON Web Service Interface to communicate with the Ally database. Information about artists, time schedules, venues or the latest festival news can be easily collected using the API.

Contest
Everyone who thinks he has a good idea and makes an app or a website for it using the Incubate API, gets the chance to win 500,- euros. You can participate on your own, with a team or with your business. All apps are welcome, iOS/Android/BlackBerry apps, (mobile) websites, mashups with other apps like FourSquare and Spotify; whatever you want! And if you got multiple awesome ideas, you can even submit more than one application.

There are three prizes
1st prize: 500 euros
2nd prize: 2x Incubate festival passepartouts
3rd prize: 2x Incubate festival daytickets for a day of your choice

If you want to participate in the contest, you can submit your finished application before May 10th, 2012 12:00 PM via api@incubate.org. Please include the following info:
- Application name + description about the app and the idea
- Platform information
- URL (if website/online mashup), or installfile (if possible) for app. We’d like to test the app.
- A video of the app is a plus, but not required.
- Screenshots of your application + descriptions
- Full names of all people who created the app

All submitted apps will be published on the Incubate website on a special app page, including all necessary information and links to the app or app store. Of course you do not transfer any intellectual right to Incubate when you submit your Incubate API app. You will be responsible for submitting the app to the app store of your choice if needed, you can make your app free or charge for it.

Judging
After May 10th, 2012, a jury of employees from the Incubate and Freshheads organizations will judge the submitted apps and pick the winners. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Quality of the idea (originality, creativity)
2. Implementation of the idea
3. Potential of your website/app; is it a good addition for Incubate fans?

For five seasons long there is this program on the telly which consists of models, catwalks and alot of make-up. The show is a dutch version of America’s Next Top Model, you may know it or don’t but it is simply called Holland’s Next Top Model. With our own Tyra Banks, Daphne Deckers as head presentor! But the great thing about this season is that you can be an Online Model on their website. You simple have to be a woman, have a picture, name your name and hobbies and why you are ‘The Online Next Top Model’? This last particular question brings allot of motivations with them.. But are these motivations worth your vote? Look at a couple of them motivations:

Caspian had some trouble on the road and therefore have only played a short set at Incubate 2009. Yet, it was nothing short from amazing! After a succesful first edition with the likes of Loops Haunt (also performing at Incubated 09), Knalpot (Incubate 2009) and Funckarma, FAQ Festival’s second edition will take place next week! This time even bigger, FAQ will take place at both W2 in Den Bosch and de Toonzaal. 17 cutting acts will play across this two day festival and we’ll highlight a few must-see artists for you! And, you can win 2×2 passe partouts for the festival!

Friday: The first day of the festival will start off easy, gearing up for the madness on Saturday. This day will feature headliner Oneohtrix Point Never for some serious droning ambient music as well as the beautiful cello music of Hildur Gudnadottir. Three Trapped Tiggers (see picture underneath) is one of UK’s current best math/post rock bands around (fans of 65daysofstatic will surely love this) while in the evening acts like Jameszoo (which we recommended before on the blog) and Games will get some feet of the floor.

Saturday: First of all Meat Beat Manifesto is setting foot on Dutch soil again after 6 years! This legendary act has been around since 1987 already, helping to form music styles such as jungle and big beat. You can place them somewhere between The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and The Future Sound of London. Maniac Otto Von Schirach (see picture underneath) was part of our legendary ZXZW breakcore evening in 2008 and will also participate in the FAQ Festival night program. Jason Forrest (aka DJ Donna Summer) will play along side him as well as Toktek (ZXZW 2007) with DJ 30303 for some serious acid!

Luc Ferrari remix project

Luc Ferrari was a great French composer who was known for his work with Edgar Varèse. Ferrari was schooled in a classical way, learning about compositions, music theory and musical analysis first. But after meeting Varèse he began to take a much bigger interest in recorded sounds. Via his website, producers can download sounds from his archive and use them in their own compositions and remixes. The following statement was taken from his site:

Proposal to composers:

To composers who wish to rework some of Luc Ferrari’s sound archives or to use them in their musical project, PRESQUE RIEN Association proposes to visit lucferrari.org and listen to the files that will be available to them.

These sound files were collected during a first digitized batch of Ferrari’s magnetic archives and will be downloadable on request from proposal@lucferrari.org.

Needless to say, the candidates will have to include in their program and copyright declaration the name of Luc Ferrari as well as the name of used sounds and their duration. The pieces thus produced and sent to the Association PRESQUE RIEN will be carefully listened to by a jury every two years. The selected composition will be endowed with a cash award and appear, obviously with the name of its composer and his internet link on the Luc Ferrari site.

Cellist Hank Robert (Bill Frisell, Tim Berne, John Zorn, Marilyn Crispell, Joey Baron, Marc Ribot) speelde al eerder in Paradox met zijn trio waarin meesterdrummer Jim Black & gitarist Marc Ducret. Deze laatste heeft plaats gemaakt voor pianist John Stetch. Deze wordt momenteel gezien als een van de grootste pianotalenten uit de USA. Jim Black zit gelukkig nog steeds op de drumkruk. Samen spelen deze artiesten op woensdag 19 januari in de Paradox in Tilburg.

De muziek van het trio is een prachtige mix van jazz, improvisatie, pop, country & kamermuziek. Dit concert is een Europese première en jij kunt er kaarten voor winnen!

Morgen speelt The Thing samen met Otomo Yoshihide in de Paradox in Tilburg. De basis van het jazz-impro-rock trio “The Thing” wordt gevormd door de briljante Noorse ritmesectie drummer Paal Nilssen-Love en bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten aangevuld met de bekende Zweedse saxofonist Mats Gustafsson. Zij krijgen gedurende deze tournee versterking van de Japanse gitarist Otomo Yoshihide. Deze speelt niet alleen gitaar maar bediend zich ook van taperecorders, draaitafels en andere electronische speeltjes.

Otomo Yoshihide staat voor ondoordringbare noise in de goede Japanse traditie (zie Masayuki Takayanagi, Hanatarash, Keiji Haino en Merzbow) maar ook wilde freejazz, smerige vrije rock in de stijl van Bill Laswell en John Zorn (op wiens label Tzadik hij trouwens meerdere platen uitheeft). Kortom dit belooft een zeer boeiend concert te worden !

On October 7th and 8th Playgrounds Digital Arts Festival will take place in Tilburg. The Festival takes place in 013 and other venues in the centre of the city. It shows the best digital audiovisual design of the moment. The program consists of a number of works by graphic designers, animators, character designers, directors and game developers. Not only will the festival show many innovative animations and films, also the artists are present to talk about their work during artist talks and Q&A’s. Some of the guests are Pierre Coffin (director of ‘Despicable Me’), Rex crowle (graphic designer who worked on the game ‘LittleBigPlanet’) and David OReilly (director of the U2 video ‘I’ll Go Crazy if I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight’).

Wildbirds & Peacedrums are a contemporary experimental two piece hailing from Sweden consisting of singer Mariam Wallentin and drummer Andreas Werliin. Their ‘instruments’ consist of her powerful vocals and his unorthodox percussion/drumming, resulting in a powerful, innovative sound. Their music is a hybrid of folk, blues and various other types of music.

Last month NEU! has released a four vinyl box covering all their previously released material and even some unreleased live and studio recordings. NEU! and Groenland Records have now started a remix contest on TracksAndFiels.com. Remix NEU!’s new song Crazy and upload it before this Saturday. The winning mix will be featured as a bonustrack on the iTunes version of the album. All info can be found here.

Hallogallo 2010 (featuring Michael Rother and Steve Shelley) will play the music of NEU! at Incubate 2010 on Sunday September 19.

31 March Paradox hosts a Doom Drone Night featuring Thrones (USA), Nadja (CAN) and OvO (it).

Joe fuckin Preston!!!! was a member of legendary groups such as EARTH, Melvins, SunnO))) and High On Fire. THRONES is his solo project, with Preston playing all instruments, incluiding bass, drums, vocals and synths.

NADJA is a dronenoise collective from Toronto, Canada. The music is characterised by elements from psychedelica, free jazz, drone, and experimental stuff, mixed with ambient and some melodics. The future of doom?

OvO is a project of music and life . OVO are Stefania Pedretti ( also singer and guitar player of Allun ) and Bruno Dorella ( ex Wolfango , Bugo , Lava , now involved in many bands and boss of Bar La Muerte records ), often joined by friends that belong to many different musical scenes.
