The release of the 100th free album download on the WM Recordings Netlabel label is rapidly approaching. One of the projects surrounding their 100th free album will be the release of an album of cover version of tracks from the WM Recordings catalog.

Do you play in a band? Pick your favorite WM Recordings track from www.wmrecordings.com and… cover it! You can choose from almost a thousand songs, varying in style from pop to afro-beat!

They will post submission guidelines on their site very soon, but you’re already invited to start submitting your cover versions. Deadline is September 25th.

The rules are simple: the track(s) must have been released by WM Recordings and your version should not be longer than 5 minutes. Also keep in mind that a remix does not count as a cover version. Mail infoATwmrecordingsPUNKTcom if you have any questions or if you have more great ideas to celebrate their 100th free album!

Using analogue  synths Jeroen “Happy Elf” Elfferich has been creating catchy electropop-tunes for years, this one is together with blues singer Willem van Dullemen.

2.         WM086: Meanwhileproject.ltd – Today is Sunday

Multi-instrumentalist from Keulen, who made an album with surprisingly beautiful popsongs.

3.          WM037: D’r Sjaak – Schijnheiligen

In the south of The Netherlands (Zuid-Limburg), Sjaak Vinken has reached the status of cultfigure with his powerful beats and crazy lyrics in dialect. Now it’s time for conquering the rest of the planet, or at least The Netherlands!

A cover version that creates a lot of heat atm is the All the Things she said – T.a.T.u.  cover by The Berzerker you see above. The Berzerker are an Aussie grindcore/gabbermetal band that are most famous for their incorporation of gabberbeats into their grindcore/death metal. For an example click here.

A song that has been covered many times particularly by metal bands is Björk’s Army of Me (maybe that is because of the heavy metal umlaut in her name?).
