Founded by designers/branders Riley Cran and Tyler Galpin, Lost Type has become a full-fledged foundry, distributing fonts from designers all over the world, with a worldwide unique model: a Pay-what-you-want price and 100% of funds from these sales go directly to the designers of the fonts, respectively. Lost Type takes no cut of sales, and holds no funds.

We like that. And more so: some of these fonts are really good! Check them out here!

The DMC initiative (DMCI) developed this awesome movie, it involves dance, design and graphics. The concept behind this is video is timelessness. ‘People, the expression of self and the interactions between each other are timeless qualities relevant to creativty, no matter what the future holds.‘ They asked dancers, with individual performance styles, to develop choreographed dance routines based on the concept of growth, sharing, sending and receiving.

All the different elements in this movie are working together perfectly. The score underneath the video hits the same time as someone does another dance move. When a dancer is hitting or spinning around the graphics flow with them. It’s a briljant movie, where all the parts are beautifully connected!

The upcoming months MU in Eindhoven will feature a Francesca Gavin’ curated exposition called ‘The New Psychedelica’. This exposition features work from artists from all over the world including Jimmy Joe Roche (Incubate 2010), Daniel Keller/Nik Kosmos (AIDS-3d), Harm van den Dorpel, Paul B. Davis and Jim Drain. E*Rock:

E*Rock is a producer, director, animator and graphic designer from Portland, OR. E*Rock is the co-founder of the Audio Dregs label and also runs the label Fryk Beat. He also produces webbased music videos with the people from Wyld File. His artwork was shown in Holland earlier at Impakt in Utrecht and at our own Incubate festival. During the 2007 edition of Incubate festival (still called ZXZW back then) E*Rock was invited by our artist in residence, the graphic designer Zeloot. IKEA furniture is well known for its modern, innovative furniture design. Is that true of their advertising as well? The IKEA Assembly Service ads bring to light a much-needed and underused support system. Cleverly depicting the plea for help from customers, the IKEA Assembly Service campaign is the brainchild of German advertising agency Grabarz & Partner. What do you think about these funny ads ? Made by the Dutch artist Lisette Spee and architect Tim van den Burg these chairs can be found in het Valkenbergpark in Breda, The Netherlands.

Heavy metal behemoths Van Halen are suing Nike for copyright infringement because their new brand of shoes looks like one of Eddie Van Halen’s guitars.

ELVH, Van Halen’s company, have claimed that sportswear giant’s new design of shoe, the Nike Dunk Lows, boast a red trim criscrossed with black and white lines that rips off Eddie’s Frankenstrat guitar, which is red with zigzagging white and black stripes.

Maybe it’s not strictly Art, but then: who cares? It’s cool!

LouLou and Tummie have a ‘solo’ exposition about their work (canvas, prints, shirts, posters and toys) at Subwalk in Arnhem till July 30th 2009.

They will give a lecture there on their work, Friday 26th of June around 20:ooh.

And for the first time they will show samples of their new pluche characters called ‘The Tummie Friends’!

On the Taipei Toy Festival in Taiwan these pluches will be released on July 9th 2009.

The building is divided horizontally with a set-back glass plinth
and above this the municipal offices. The grand station hall and city hall are crowned with
a vaulted ceiling on which a scene is depicted in delfts blue.

The building will include a public hall of 30 000 meters squared; station with shops,
ticket office and restaurants in the station hall and underground platforms. The building
construction is due to begin in 2010 and expected to be completed by 2014.

We wear biological clothes, eat biological products and recycle glass and plastics… at least the most of us do. The only thing we nowadays move to our trashcan and can’t recycle is the everyday, everlasting stream of SPAM.

Everybody loves spam, we all know that! Especially the ones advertising herbal viagra. Therefore illustrator Linzie Hunter transforms spam subject one-liners into colourful and happy illustrations and thus “recycles” them. She experiments with handlettering and uses happy and intense colors to emphasize the annoying character that spam mails have. Transforming them into art!

Finally mankind found a useful purpose for Spam…

If I could skateboard or actually had some money I would definitely buy one. 

I wish this were my words, but sadly they aren’t. These are the words of Roelewapper editor of the Retard-o-tron Mixtapes. I’m not totally sure if most people would classify this as design, but we sure do. To us this sounds like the perfect opening for our blog contributions to ZXZW. 

The video-mixtape phenomenon dates back since the early days of, who would have thought it… video. Ever since mankind had the oppurtunity to visually record itself, all kinds of strange fantasies arose from the dark, smelly depths of the human brain. You wouldn’t believe it, but there are people out there who collect all this footage and edit it into little masterpieces of gore, comedy, pulp and freaks. Most of the used stuff you will never find on YouTube and is dug up from VHS tapes and betamax found on fleamarkets. 

The most important thing about a mixtape is that it should grab you by the balls and not let you go until the ultimate end. And that’s what Retard-o-Tron definitely does. And the great thing is, you can download it for free on his website: Retard-o-Tron. Both the volumes!!! There are tons more of great video-mixtapes out there. So go collect them all, or “DESIGN” your own! Enjoy!
