Time for another Trigga club night in 013! A special edition, since this time the guys from Trigga will be collaborating with the Lowriders Collective from Rotterdam. As always, expect the best and hardest dubstep around. Bare Noize and Sduk, both from the UK, will be rocking your socks off together with DMDN, Just so Nah, Co2ro, Ruwe Data, Ghosryda, Simcommander and Coco Bryce. Today is the day! Today Incubate will curate a stage at the Europe Mania Festival. The festival takes place in Pécs, Hungary from the 6th until the 8th of may. Today, may 8^th, Incubate will host the Brewery stage.

Most of the Incubate staff is in Pécs, Hungary right now to host the Brewery stage. This week we have highlighted most of the artists that we’ve brought to Hungary to perform. Two more left though: Coco Bryce and Globalibre.

Coco Bryce is one of the best upcoming producers in the Netherlands operating in the field of dubstep and skwee. Skwee?! Yes, skweee. Although still a niche, skweee is a rapidly growing musical movement combining synth and bass driven dance music with elements of funk, hip hop and soul. Starting out as a DJ playing mainly hardcore and breakbeat rave, Coco Bryce has developed himself in recent years into one of the Netherlands’ leading skweee producers. With his tracks being released by Harmönia and Myor and a mixtape recently released through the Lowriders Collective, it’s now time to introduce Coco Bryce to a bigger audience at the Europe Mania festival.

Also performing this Saturday will be DJ O.live.R and DJ axe.l of the Globalibre DJ Team. Being active for more than ten years as DJ’s in different DJ teams and soundsystems, these guys will bring you some of the funkiest ghetto tech, baile funk, tropical house and dub mixed up with traditional music from around the world. Check out some of their stuff for free right here. As we say in Dutch: voetjes van de vloer! (= dance mf!).

This Saturday Incubate will curate a stage at the Europe Mania Festival. The festival takes place in Pécs, Hungary from the 6th until the 8th of may. On may 8th Incubate will host the Brewery stage.

Last year on Incubate, this year on Europe Mania in Pécs: Tilburgs own dubstep/grime masters Boef en de Gelogeerde Aap. Named after a famous Dutch proverb, these two young cats have definitely put the south of Holland on the map as the leading area for dubstep and grime. After releasing a free album a couple of months ago, they have played all across the land with their blend of poetic hiphop and dubstep beats. Headlining major events, their live reputation is excellent and has created a steady audience following them across the land. The next level in hiphop from Holland is here and they are called Boef & de Gelogeerde Aap!

Dubstep column: Get yourself updated

The Quietus posted a cool, and insightful column on dubstep on their site. Of course they mentioned Incubate artist Joker in it.

But the real talk of the bass music town this month, has to be the commemorative collation that is 5, a dual CD and vinyl package destined to mark the first 5 years of the Hyperdub label (clips and info here). Kode9’s label, constantly described in the media as “a mutating virus coursing through the veins of music”, has surprised many of its fans with its omnipotent turns and curve ball releases, simultaneously becoming the home to the beat sketches of Samiyam, the iconic vocoder wheeze of Darkstar, the dub heavy drawl of King Midas Sound – The Bug’s side project with Roger Robinson, and, of course, the whispy impassioned garage of Burial. In short it documents how Hyperdub has blossomed into a powerhouse label that sparks trends rather than following them, successfully incubating micro genres, nursing the ‘purple sound’ of Bristol by releasing Joker’s ‘Digidesign’ on the flip of JKamata & 2000F’s ‘Don’t You Know What Love Is’ and giving Zomby the double EP platform needed for him to bring his manic computer game torture to a wider audience.

A small excerpt:

How did you get the name and WTF does it mean and of course you know it’s such a bitch to spell?

We all live in the same quarter in Munich called “Schlachthof” (in engl: meat district) Schlachthofbronx is the nickname for that quarter.

We have more quarters in Munich that has names like that, for example Giesing Heights. A local joke thing, boring story but funny in a Munich context

How do you perform live?

Right now we are some kind of funfair dj team. We have all these siren boxes and delays, 3cdjs, an mpc, white towels, whistles ,a mic and two bottles of liquor. We play 75 to 85 % of our own tracks, edits, remixes, etc and 25 to 15% regular tracks which we usually customize before we play them. Usually editing the “good” parts together and stuff like this. Maybe we start to perform the whole thing like “real” live at the end of the year…

Who fancies a game of “name the hottest new instrumental grime producer?” Here’s the first clue: “He’s making next level instrumental grime, evoking memories of Detroit’s future.” Sound like Plastician? It does but you’re wrong. How about: “He’s a prestigious talent, who stays in to make vast number of beats, began writing on Fruty Loops when he was 14 before graduating to Logic.” Sounds like Skream? It does…but it isn’t. What about: “As a teenager he watched UK garage implode, seized his moment to combine synths with mental computer game FX to create his own sound.” Remind you of a young Dizzee Rascal? It does, but you’ve still got the wrong guy.

Instead, meet 18-year-old Joker from Easton, Bristol, UK. With a release on dubstep’s DJ Pinch’s Earwax and another forthcoming on grime’s Plastican’s Terrorhtyhm, Joker’s making waves in 2007 with a unique sound of his own. Joker started as a DJ. He stills plays out but, having chosen to focus on production, now has a massive advantage over the next DJ: a mighty arsenal of unique material. Since turning 15, Joker has been developing his production style– and there’s nothing funny about it.

His musical peers include Rustie, Gemmy as well as Kode9, boss of the Hyperdub label and recognised tastemaker, who identified the newcomer as one to watch. Here’s an update about the weblog activities surrounding the non-western dance program at ZXZW!

The most visible infiltration of the Dutch media by Vince the Prince (the man behind the blog) was last month . He sent an cd filled with good music to the Queen of England, and was rewarded with a nice letter by one of Her Majesties personal assistents. Read all about it here:
