After twenty-five editions the organization of dubstep party Trigga is calling it a day. This saturday, the 7th of April, the last edition of Trigga is gonna be held.

To make this last edition to a success the organization arraigned the coming of Killawat from the UK. Other dj’s who will play this saturday are Coco Bryce, Dubjunk, (Bas) Bots, Just So Nah and Cintasoul. Of course residents and organisers DMDN and our own Ghosryda (aka The Musical Dictator) will play as well. Tickets are still for sale for only €6 and can be bought here. For an interview with Sjak van Bussel (aka DMDN and owner of Antenne) about why this going to be the last edition can be read here (in Dutch).

Lord Cry Cry is adventurous and that you can certainly hear on his debut album ‘Lord Cry Cry’, out now on Generation Bass. A 9-track album with all kinds of different genres from blues to dubstep to burlesque to surfstep to Tom Waits to experimental. A wide range of diversity we must say, but it’s perfectly mixed. You can think of it like this, ‘A debut album where jazz, blues and classic film soundtracks have found common ground with dubstep and electronica.’

The man behind Lord Cry Cry is Berlin-based producer and composer Christopher Donaghue. ‘A genre-gliding musician and film-score composer trained in the psychology of music and music composition, his work is able to use music and rhythm to affect emotion’. Lord Cry Cry has been making a name since 2009 where he first caught the attention with his debut single, OneStepTwo, of UK independent label Blunt Force Trauma. He played several music festivals around the world and caught the attention of Joe Ransom, he put is experimental journey in this debut album, Lord Cry Cry. Enjoy!

Moombahluv II

Now that every untalented musician and company uses dubstep and kids are going wild, we are looking for something special in this genre. We’re not saying all dubstep is bad, it’s more that a growing number of new dubstep productions/producers are.

Generation Bass is one of these blogs that keep putting out great releases with their ‘Transnational Dubstep’ series. And they are also looking for the newest sounds in dancemusic.
Moombahton is developing every day and we’re starting to really dig the funky dub beats. Moombahluv for example. A mix between Moombahton, soul and r’n'b, results in a laidback version of this originally pumping music. We posted about the first Moombahluv mixtape earlier, now the second one is out and can be downloaded for free by clicking here.

Shazalakazoo

If this is too smooth for your taste, we have something for you as well. Shazalakazoo is a band from Belgrade (Serbia) formed by Milan Djuric and Uros Petkovic. The band plays danceable electronic bass music spiced with the sounds originating mostly from their own region – the Balkans. And now for their new EP, they’ve intertwined their sound with the characteristics of Moombahton. The result sounds like you expect. But better. You can buy the ‘Bang! Pretty much every rework of a Burial tune comes with a disclaimer like this one: “I know. No one should remix or edit Burial, but I found a beat I made with a friend almost two years ago and I wanted to share this with you guys.” And just like Shlohmo’s recent stab at recreating the dubstep diety’s music, German producer Essáy‘s edit of the drifty “Dog Shelter” sounds pretty great. So, maybe we should change this whole hands-off approach to Burial’s music after all. Just a thought.

Op vrijdag 21 januari kwam het album ‘Wij Zijn’ van Boef en de Gelogeerde Aap uit op TopNotch. De nieuwe lichting van de Fakkelteit Groep vierde dit die avond in een afgeladen 013 in hun hometown Tilburg.

Van fotograaf Erik Luyten (3voor12, Incubate) verschenen daarna fotos op verschillende websites die de sfeer van deze onvergetelijke avond perfect vastlegden. Kingdom Skateshop, TopNotch en Boef en de Gelogeerde Aap sloegen de handen ineen en besloten om een van deze fotos te gebruiken voor een gelimiteerde shirt release.

In een oplage van 103 stuks zal op vrijdag 6 mei deze photo tee gereleased worden in Kingdom Skateshop, waarbij Boef en de Gelogeerde Aap een in-store optreden zullen geven.
Vanaf die dag is het shirt ook verkrijgbaar op de websites van Kingdom en TopNotch.

Less than two months left until our 9th edition of Incubated kicks off with the likes of Loops Haunt alongside Frank Fairfield and Stranded Horse. This UK artists blends hip-hop with dubstep and idm elements into one sick mashup. He just uploaded a remix of ‘We Got More’ by Eskmo, which is due out on Ninja Tune soon. Daedelus is on the roll! With the release of his new album ‘Bespoke’ just around the corner (April 26th, mark your agenda’s!), The Fader have treated us with a remix of future garage/dubstep duo Sepulcure, which you can listen to and download underneath here. Also, you can download the song ‘Overwhelmed’, together with Bilal from the new album here!

I’ve seen the term djent floating around on the internet a lot lately as bands like Periphery, Tesseract and Animals as Leaders are some of the rising stars within the metalcore genre, but have a bit of a twist. They blend the mathematics of The Dillinger Escape Plan with the guitar and bass sounds of bands like Meshuggah (seen as the pioneers from this sound) and Cynic. This sound is often promoted with the term “djent”. But now a new genre emerged called Djentstep, mixing this djent sound with modern dubstep. The French artist The Algorithm is seen as the first one to mix these genres and it sounds pretty cool.

The highly productive FaltyDL is set to release his new album ‘You Stand Uncertain’ through Planet Mu on March 28th. You can already preview the songs on the Planet Mu website. Here’s what the website has to say about the new album:

“Things have evolved a lot on “You Stand Uncertain”. From the very beginning the listener is plunged into his new focus on layered dusty atmospheres. Opener “Gospel Of Opal (ft. Anneka)” is also his first work with a vocalist. Although at times it’s anchored in the familiar basslines and rhythm science of uk dance, as heard in his previous material, on this album it’s clear that Drew has been soaking up some of his native city’s musical past such as disco, house and hip hop. With this in mind the album moves at different tempos, the ghosts of dance music past are evoked but never allowed to take over, giving the whole album a decayed, dreamy abstraction that allows for comparisons with the current crop of ‘chillwave’ producers, were it not for the tight drums and basslines. Check the way “The Pacifist” moves between passages of melody and waves of synth over distorted breaks, or “Open Space’s” use of slowed down rave euphoria and double speed 808 drums.”

Struggling with the fact that dubstep is evolving rapidly lately and Rusko can’t be compared with acts like Shackleton or James Blake, it seems a new “subgenre” within dubstep popped up on the internet. After the failed attempt to introduce “post-dubstep” the genre “night bus” popped up on various websites. What do you think?
