It’s Thursday again, the day that we announce all things happening during the run-up of this year’s Incubate. As an independent festival we love to involve others. New persons participating alongside our point of view yields new ideas, critical notes and a lot of energy. On the other hand it prevents tunnel vision and slumber. This Incu Thursday emphasizes on that what is important to us; collaboration and participation!

Louder than War and Incendiary Magazine curate V39
The two webzines join forces for the curatorship of V39.  The two of them also got something to celebrate as well. Louder than War celebrates its label launch and Incendiarymag celebrates their 10th anniversary. John Robb (photo), editor in chief of Louder than War, was a guest at Incubate 2011. He then performed with his band Goldblade and interviewed Steve Ignorant at the DIY Conference.

As collaborations yields new ideas they’ve come up with their own theme for their curatorship: “Cultural Cringe”. Cultural Cringe will host a number of bands that don’t fit – bands who are old, ugly, uncool and un-rock, ignored acts, nobodies, bands singing in strange languages, and bands who are strangers in their own lands.  These bands are:

Plant Duw Saturday 15, September - Playing burning and psychotic Welsh language rock
Paranoid Visions Saturday, 15 September - 30 years of fierce DIY punk rock, recently found sudden success with 2 top 10 hits in Ireland
Fawn Spots Sunday, 16 September - Two piece that managed to translate the rush, imagination and energy of underground rock into pop
Gul Night Out Sunday, 16 September - Truly out there experimental non-pop pop music, possibly one of the most enigmatic noise acts around
Boutros Bubba  Sunday, 16 September - Wild, weird and absurd, cocking a snook at Beefheart and Slayer

New Jacks 4.0 selected artists

For the fourth time we invited young artists to create new work for our festival. Since last year we collaborate together with bkkc on a shared exhibition by artists that graduated not yet, or less than 5 years ago at a Brabant art academy. For the first time we invited artists to submit themselves for New Jacks 4.0. All the selected artist will work with the theme: “You are Incubate”, the selected artists are Jordy Koevoets, Petra van Noort, Angela de Weijer, Robert Lombarts and Erik van Liere.

Open Source Poetry

In addition to earlier Open Source Arts projects there is now an Open Source Poetry. The design is the same as the other projects: we offer the stage to everyone that wants to participate. This happens through several ways:

- All entries are published on this blog.
- One poem from each contributor will be chosen and recited during the festival week (10-16 September 2012) in a special program on Incubate radio.
- Some selected contributors will be invited to recite own poems during the Incubate Poetry-nights. Prior to this they will get a workshop from a professional poet, who will recite during the same night.

Do you want to be in the spotlights with your poetry? Send your entry before August 13 (including your name, e-mail and telephone number) to poetry@incubate.org.

Conditions:
- Only own work
- Maximum of 5 poems
- Because of the available time we prefer poems that aren’t that long

Everybody who contributes will participate. There are no further cost. We don’t ask any commission for publications or assignments as a result of participating at Open Source Poetry.

Usually we announce new confirmations on Thursday, but because it’s World Goth Day we’re sharing some new confirmations for Incubate ’12 today. We reached a total of 95 confirmed artist with these four new additions:

We are very proud to present the exclusive performance by the legendary English goth rock band Fields of the Nephilim. By incorporating elements from heavy metal and Carl McCoy’s trademark growled vocals they have been setting the standard in the gothic scene since 1984. They haven’t performed  in the Netherlands since 1988! For World Goth Day (today!), the band has been awarded with ‘Best 90′s goth band’ and ‘Best 2000′s goth band’ of 2012. Friday, 14 September - Gothic rock, eighties, rock noir

Yes, we managed to get the rarely performing Darkwood to play Incubate 2012! Darkwood is the neofolk unity of many different elements. From traditional themes and acoustic instruments with experimental soundscapes and samples and mixing English and German lyrics. They only performed live 16 times and their last performance was in 2007, which makes this occasion extra special.

Renowned extreme noise act Consumer Electronics will definitely make some ears bleed during Incubate. Vast walls of noise are coming your way with power electronics interspersed with industrial sound. Walls that will vaporize every eardrum that comes unprepared.
Saturday, 15 September - Noise, industrial, power electronics

The collective Drum Eyes led by Shigeru Ishihara aka DJ Scotch Egg, notorious from his Game Boy act.  With this collective he and his fellow musicians explore different facets of electronic music. As you can see from the numerous of different genre-tags used, this band is mixing more elements than your average blender.

Hurray, another Incu Thursday! Today we got a few hands full of new names for you to announce for Incubate 2012, which happens on 10 to 16 September in Tilburg, NL.

Incubate is elated to present an extensive Sacred Bones in Residence program. On Saturday September 15th and Sunday 16th, the record label will host a stage in the 013 venue. Currently confirmed artists are The Men, Iceage, War, Amen Dunes, Lower and Lust For Youth. More names will be added to this program soon.
Also confirmed for the music program are Luke Roberts, Killed By 9V Batteries, RM Hubbert and Pretty Lightning.

But wait, there’s more! Just like previous year, Incubate presents the DIY Conference. Another live recording from Incubate ’11; this time it is the two piece Natural Snow Buildings. This French duo can be best described as experimental psychedelic folk. They rarely play live shows, and we $even got them to play in a church, the Pauluskerk. So these recordings are really rare in the already impressive oeuvre of NSB.

The presale for this year’s Incubate festival will start on Thursday the March 1^st 2012, 10:00. The first artists performing at Incubate 2012 are announced during the Incubated concert series later that day. #incu12 takes place on 10 to 16 September 2012 in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

Just like previous editions, the line-up of Incubate offers music, performance, art, debate and film. There are day tickets as well as passe-partouts available for the seven-day festival. A limited amount of early bird passe-partout tickets is available for a 15-euro discount. Everyone who buys (early bird) passe-partout tickets at the record store Sounds in Tilburg or during one of the Incubated shows will receive a complimentary Incubate t-shirt or girlie as long as supplies last.

First names will be announced during the Incubated evening on Thursday March 1^st, 2012. The Norwegian band Shining and Pterodactyl from New York shall be performing that night. Tickets for Incubate 2012 can also be bought during the Incubated concert series. Tickets for Incubated on March 1^st are still available but running out quickly .

New confirmed acts will be announced every Thursday trough the diverse channels of Incubate, like the festival website, the blog www.inlog.org and social media channels.

The Sonic Acts festival is well-known for interdisciplinary projects and the focus on developments at the intersections of art, technology, music and science. The festival consists of live performances, a conferance, film programme and an exhibition. The fourteenth edition will take place 23-26 February at various locations in Amsterdam

The theme for this edition is ‘Travelling Time’ and offers an experience of time and ideas relating to time. Time is a complex and ongoing technological developments continually change our notions of time. Communication networks operate at light speed and computers process data in real-time without human mediation, resulting in a gap between machine time and the human experience of it.

Masterclasses
In collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum and STEIM, Sonic Acts will host a series of Master Classes as part of this year’s festival theme Travelling Time. The master classes will be supervised by Catherine Christer Hennix, Peter Kubelka, Olaf Nicolai, Pauline Oliveros and Tino Sehgal

The master classes provide a unique opportunity to work with five internationally renowned artist whose work critically reflects on time and timing. In a concentrated and intimate setting, participants will gain insights into the ‘artist’ concepts, creative processes and methods of composition and production through hands-on workshops and seminars.

The deadline for applications is February 12. Send a biography and a short statement of motivation to take part in a specific master class to masterclass@sonicacts.com.

February 20 – Olaf Nicolai
A German artist whose conceptual approach and use of diverse media question the way in which we view our everyday environment. He also translates theories from science and the arts into aesthetic-artistic idioms, rendering them accessible in a new context. His works deal with the perception of time in the reception of art. Nicolai has participated in international solo and group exhibitions. His works were shown at Documenta X, and at the 49^th and 51^st Venice Biennales. Several of his works can be found in public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Thyssen Bornemisza Art

February 21 & 22 – Catherine Christer Hennix
Composer, philosopher, mathematician and visual artist. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, she worked with illustrious figures such as La Monte Young and Pandit Pran Nath, who were very important for her own work. She has frequently collaborated with the American anti-art philosopher, composer and violinist Henry Flynt. Hennix also draws inspiration from Japanese Gagaku music and early vocal music of Perotinus and Leoninus. All her major compositions, including The Electric Harpsichord, are regarded as part of an ongoing, endless cycle. Hennix’ two-day master class will investigate the relationship between modern music, programming and linguistics, and relate the latter to mathematical structures.

February 22 – Peter Kubelka
A multifaceted artist and theoretician who has worked in film, cooking, music, architecture, speech and writing. He communicates through lectures, which also use non-verbal elements  “to free our world view from being the exclusive property of language.” Kubelka’s cinematographic work is short and highly condensed. His “Metric Films” preceded and laid the foundations for structural cinema. Kubelka will lead a master class on film and cooking.

February 23 – Pauline Oliveros
Composer, performer and humanitarian, she is an important pioneer in American music and electronic music. She has explored sound for five decades, breaking new ground for herself and others. Through improvisation, electronic music, ritual, teaching and meditation, she created a body of work with such breadth of vision that is profoundly affects those who experience it. Oliveros will lead a Deep Listening session.

February 23 – Tino Sehgal
A British-German artist whose works, which he calls “constructed situations,” involve one or more people carrying out instructions conceived by the artist. What all of Sehgal’s works have in common is that they reside only in the space and time they occupy, and in the memory of the work and its reception. The artist himself describes his works as “constructed situations,” whose materials are the human voice, language, movement and interaction, without the production of physical objects. His pieces are choreographies that are regularly staged in museums or galleries, and continuously executed for the entire duration of a show. In 2012, he will present a newly commissioned work for the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, London.

Between 12 and 18 September we’re welcoming thousands of visitors for the seventh edition of Incubate. The Fall, Battles, Glen Hansard and Health are a few of the more than two hundred cutting edge artists that bring music, film, art, debate and dance to Tilburg.

Artistic director Vincent Koreman: “I am incredibly proud of this program. Every year, we show that we continue to innovate and grow at the same time as a festival. This year’s highlights for me personally are the enormous amount of applications for the open source program, the great three-day dance program curated by XLR8R and getting The Fall to Incubate.”

Among the large number of artists that perform during the week in Tilburg are British (post) punk legends The Fall and Steve Ignorant (Crass), next to upcoming artists like EMA and Austra. There are special appearances at the Nature Theatre in Oisterwijk, on Friday, September 16 with Oscar winner Glen Hansard, known from his band The Frames and on Saturday, September 17 Battles. Psychedelic rock band Wooden Shjips will play a unique concert on Saturday the 17th in collaboration with video artist Wineke Gartz.

For lovers of dance music, there’s a lot to enjoy to as well. Among others, Jackmaster, Loefah, Theo Parrish and Silkie will be behind the turntables that weekend. Music publication XLR8R curates a three day program with what they view as the most important artists at the moment. Next to the XLR8R curated program, there are several dubstep, moombahton and breakcore events and collaborations between dj’s from all over the world.

Punk legend Steve Ignorant curates a program at one of the Incubate venues, just like jazz drummer Chris Corsano. Both programs provide exciting collaborations between artists. Collaboration is the main theme of this years Incubate.

We have also received much response to the call to public to present their own work for the open source programs. More than one hundred people will present their own works at the open source expo, twenty-five people will produce seven days of non-stop radio, loads of films are submitted for the film program plus we’ll serve our own open source dance show. All these programs are filled by people from the Incubate audience itself.

Besides the music program, Incubate presents the Do It Yourself conference. During this conference author Michael Azerrad will give a keynote speech, artist Bill Drummond performs his The17 project and punk legend Steve Ignorant will be interv iewed. Besides, there are several discussion panels throughout the day. Visitors of the conference can determine the price for the conference themselves through the pay-what-you-want-principle.

On Monday, September 12, a member of the city council of Tilburg will open Incubate along with fifty children from the Tilburg music school Factorium who will be playing on the dozens of pianos in and around Tilburg which are part of the Play Me, I’m Yours project by New York based artist Luke Jerram. Omar Souleyman, The War on Drugs and Megafaun also perform at the first evening of the festival. The weekdays music program also contains artists like Health, Nosaj Thing and Aura Noir.

Maybe you have read about this before. Maybe you really liked it. In that case, we have good news: The  Night Of The Unexpected is back. And this time, not only in Amsterdam but also in Eindhoven and Utrecht.

The Night of the Unexpected focuses on new developments in contemporary music. Acts include former Incubated act Hauschka (listen here), Thundercat ft. Austin Peralta (debut album produced by Flying Lotus to be released in August, watch here), Kid Koala, Lean Left (The Ex guitar section and the Vandermark/Nilssen-Love duo), Erik Bosgraaf, Sarah Nicolls, Lunapark and Slagwerk Den Haag. – Please check the official website for the exact line-up, not all artists will play all three days.

And even more good news: All of these names are free to visit on Monday to Thursday!

The local boys from Grudgefuck host the second room in MIDI Theatre on Saturday September 17th while the main room is curated by XLR8R. Performing are Limewax, Bong-Ra, GG Skeng, Dom Perignon, GInger Kid, Strange Fruit, Bubtek and Zuur79.

Added to the film program are Stardust and Long Live the New Flesh.

The KOMA Elektronik Salon creates true analog audio effect pedals and will present their outcome for the first time during Incubate.

Unfortunately, we also have to tell you that Indian cancelled their Europe tour. Herder will replace the band.

Hi there! This is Incu Thursday. Every Thursday, 14:00h local time, we announce the musicians that were confirmed for the Incubate 2011 festival during the past week. Whether it’s one or twenty names, as long as we have things to confirm… 

Ticket sales are up and running well now. So head over here for your passepartouts or day tickets!

Remember we have a campsite for the first time this year as well! Busses will carry you between the campsite and the city centre. You can buy your camping tickets through the Incubate ticket shop.

We’ve just confirmed the Do-It-Yourself Conference Incubate is organizing on Friday September 16th.  But beside that, we also added nine artists to the music line-up: The Fall (photo), Esben And The Witch, Natural Snow Buildings, Han Bennink, Alasdair Roberts,The Joyous Cosmology, Constitu Sound, Puzzle Muteson and Safari Park.

Stichting No Guts No Glory zamelt geld in voor behandelingen tegen kanker die (nog) niet vergoed worden door de verzekeraars. No Guts No Glory bestaat uit een groep mensen die willen blijven geloven in leven en zich hard inzetten om wonderen mogelijk te maken. Ook als de arts zegt dat je bent uitbehandeld en ook als de zorgverzekering het eventuele laatste redmiddel niet wil vergoeden.

De stichting richt zich bewust op de mogelijkheden van de sociale media en de persoonlijke netwerken. Via deze weg probeert de stichting geld, kennis en initiatieven te vergaren om zo veel mogelijk kankerpatiënten te helpen. Tijdens Mundial zal No Guts No Glory te vinden zijn bij het Incubate podium en wordt er een speciaal t-shirt verkocht, waarvan de opbrengsten ten goede komen van Stichting NGNG.

Het T-shirt kost 15 euro, waarvan bijna 10 euro naar het goede doel gaat, kom langs tijdens MUNDIAL bij de INCUBATE container om er een op te pikken!

You might have noticed the slightly different lay out of Inlog.org today. Do you like it? But actually, it’s not only Inlog.org that has changed. Also incubate.org has a brandnew look! We’ve got new fonts, new styles and a new video-trailer for the 2011 Incubate festival which you can see on top of the page!

What’s new on Incubate.org?
Just like last years you can log in to the website via Facebook/Twitter/Google and edit the site’s content, but this year we’re taking it to the next level: you’ll get rewarded by participating online! With your Incubate.org account, you can collect credits if you edit something on Incubate.org, or if you mention Incubate or the Incubate-hashtag #incu11 on Twitter and/or Facebook. When you’ve collected enough credits, you can redeem them for very cool exclusive merch..

Check out the Credits-tab in your account after you’ve logged in to connect to Twitter and/or Facebook so you can start collecting credits! From the end of June 2011 on, you can redeem your credits and get some awesome merch for it! More details will be announced soon, but expect some exclusive t-shirts, silkscreen posters and maybe some sweet vinyl… So start collecting those point now!

What’s new on Inlog.org?
We’ll, obviously the lay-out. We totally restyled the blog which hasn’t been done over the past three or four years. The homepage gives a much better overview from the different categories we have, and posts are easier to read. We’ll keep developing the blog in the upcoming months.

‘Brasslands is a feature documentary film currently in post-production shot in New York City and Guča, Serbia, at the 50th anniversary of the world’s largest brass music festival. Brasslands follows the members of Zlatne Uste, an unlikely New York Balkan brass band as they travel to Guča to represent the United States in the first ever competition for international bands. Once in Guča, we meet some of our other main characters, including Dejan Petrovic and Demiran Ćerimović, virtuosic trumpeters and former Guča champions.’

Just like previous years, Incubate 2011 has an extensive program with music, visual arts, films and debate. At present there are 33 artists confirmed. Among others there will be a performance of Belgian punk legends The Kids and performances of indie rock band Joan of Arc, free folk trio Megafaun, composer/musician Peter Broderick and industrial pioneers Le Syndicat. Two of the movies that will be shown are the music films‘We don’t care about music anyway’ and ‘Hydra Decapita’.Over hundred-fifty names will be added to this bill in the coming months.

The currently confirmed line-up: A Grave With No Name, Air Waves, Aura Noir, Burning Yellows, Celeste, Flying Horseman, Heretic, Herrek, Indian, Joan Of Arc, Kerouac, Ketzer, Kyst, Le Syndicat, Library Tapes, Light Bearer, Maruta, Mater Suspiria Vision, Megafaun, Monachus, My Disco, Pariso, Peter Broderick, Planks, Rivulets, SJ Esau, The Kids, The Queers, Touchy Mob, Wheels On Fire, Will Samson, Wormrot and Yukon Blonde. For the first time, Incubate will, by popular demand, offer accommodation facilities. Information regarding these accommodations will be announced at the website www.incubate.org. Also, there will be a possibility to get a dance ticket for the night program, after 11.00 pm for the Friday and Saturday of the festival.

Every Thursday, new artists will be announced through the various channels of Incubate such as the festival website, the blog www.inlog.org and the newsletter.

In Tilburg, tickets are available via Sounds Music Store and the 013 Boxoffice. All these services are powered by Timoco. The service fee via www.incubate.org, €1,25 per ticket, Sounds and 013 is €2,00 service fee per ticket and the service fee via Free Record Shop is €3,50 per ticket. One Festival Guide (worth €1,00) is included in the ticket prices.
