Exactly a year ago Matthewdavid released his breakthrough record called Outmind. As part of the LA-beatscene it was not suprising that this record was released on Flying Lotus‘ label Brainfeeder. Matthewdavid also produced a couple of tracks on Flylo’s debut Los Angeles and Flylo did the favor back by working with Matt on a track called Group Tea.

Now Matthewdavid is back with a brand new EP/beattape which is called Jewelry and is more focused on skipping instrumental hiphop glitch beats, compared to the more atmospheric sounds of Outmind. You can download the 8 tracks of Jewelry for free here.

Miracle Fortress, who is scheduled to peform at Incubate 2011, have just uploaded a single which was recorded last year and containing two free songs up on their blog. You can download the songs here and check him live in September of course!

Tilburg native DRVG CVLTVRE just put some tracks online for free downloading. It’s a slowed down disco/deep house hybrid with global and 80’s pop elements in there as well. This guy has some cool releases coming up, but these 4 are for your free listening pleasure!

Laura Gemser/Ghettoscraper will release a 12” soon with 4 tracks, plus there are two 7”s coming up. One with the mighty Ekoplekz (uk, mordant music & punch drunk – check his stuff out as well!) and one with Leyland James Kirby, who has played at Incubate as both V/VM and The Caretaker. Plus there’ll be a paired cassette release called LASER DOLPHINS vol 1 & 2 coming in the next couple of weeks.

On May 10th Polyvinyl will release the new album ‘Life Like’ by Joan of Arc. The American indie band is scheduled to play at this year’s Incubate festival in September as well! You can download the song ‘Life Like’ here. You can pre-order your limited edtion vinyl here as well as cd versions with t-shirts as well. A description of the record taken from The Audio Perv:

“Life Like is Joan of Arc distilled down to/embracing its rock essence. Gone from the band’s music (for now) are the electronics and layers upon layers of tracks. Gone from their liner notes are an extensive list of musicians and instruments. Instead, Life Like is the result of four men adhering to Thoreau’s famous principle, “Simplify, simplify, simplify!”

But, when it comes to Joan of Arc, even “simple” isn’t an entirely straightforward concept. Judging only by the record’s impeccable guitar-bass-drum interplay, it might be hard to imagine that Life Like was entirely conceived with one less member than Joan of Arc ultimately entered the studio with. After recording October’s two-song Meaningful Work 7″ as a trio, frontman Tim Kinsella, drummer Theo Katsaounis, and bassist Bobby Burg (Love of Everything, Vacations, Chin Up Chin Up) welcomed guitarist Victor Villarreal (Owls, Cap’n Jazz, Ghosts and Vodka) into the fold shortly before leaving on a month-and-a-half long tour of the U.S. and Europe. Villarreal and Kinsella re-connected during Cap’n Jazz’s reunion tour, marking Life Like as the first collaboration between them since the 2001 self-titled Owls album.”

With google maps you can check out where the mighty Warehouse wás located. For those who don’t know, the Warehouse is a place in Chicago that started in 1977 where a new music genre, house (guess where that name comes from!) emerged based on R’n'b and Disco music. The legendary Frankie Knuckles was a resident DJ here. A user on Soundcloud named r_co has uploaded a full set of Frankie at the Warehouse which you can find here. He has some great, other old gems as well so check out his list of mixes! This eclectic set from Frankie Knuckles is from 1981 and contains disco songs as well as a track by Kraftwerk.

In 1982 the Warehouse changed its name and Frankie started his own club The Powerhouse, also in Chicago. A set of him at this venue from 1986 can be found here. Legendary!

We’ve had DJ DMDN playing at Incubate last year, but also smashed the place at the Trigga evening at Stage 01 (013) last month. The mix is available as a free download. No tracklist so if you can help us out, let us know!
