Any of you still remember the band SikTh? A phenomenal English band which played some weird version  of metal, or something like that. They were awesome. But they split up. Now 2 members (one of the vocalists and the drummer) teamed up with Adrian Smith. He’s guitarist in some band called Iron Maiden or something. And if that isn’t unlikely enough, Abi Fry of Bat For Lashes completes the team. So yeah.

Ever wondered what would happen if a metalband hit a major talkshow? It isn’t something new in the US. But a metalband on primetime televisionshow in The Netherlands? That never happened yet. Until last Friday.
Textures (the best Dutch metalband?) were asked to play De Wereld Draait Door (The World Keeps On Turning), the major Dutch talk show. They could only perform one minute, because DWDD don’t want a complete song in the middle of their show. Fortunately, they didn’t play ‘Reaching Home‘ (their softest song) to please the audience. As Textures said on a radioshow earlier that day: “They want Textures, and we think this piece of music is really cool. [...] They gave an advice to play this one song in particular. But we had already prepared another song [to fit in one minute]” The song in question is ‘Consonant Hemispheres’.

If you missed it (or if you’re not from Holland and didn’t see it at all), you can watch the perfomance during the show and the complete song before the show below. They’re probably the best Dutch liveband around at the moment. So make sure to catch one of their liveshows!

The Belgium band Oathbreaker is treating us with a new video, Glimpse of the Unseen. Glimpse of the Unseen is taking from their debut album, Mælstrøm, which came out this past summer. Oathbreaker is a brutal punk/metal band from Belgium, who have toured all over Europe. They formed in 2008 and gave us one helluva record. Here is the vid, which is directed by Olli Bery for Un Oiseau dans la Main. Underneath the video you can listen to the the whole album!

Oh no.. There is a new form of metal, called Babymetal, and it sounds exactly as you may think. The Japanese pop idol group, Sakura Gakuin, is a group of 12 young girls in there early teens. And yes this pop idol group has made a babymetal song, my guess people are not going to get excited about this one. The video has it all, a band with skeleton suits on, pentagrams and the super-duper-cute-pop-mix from the girls, who also have a killer metal styling!

No, we do not like the term ‘djent’-metal either. But goddamn, it’s so easy to describe this kind of music. And while the mathematical rhythms and characteristic sounds were there before the term djent hit ground, you can’t deny that it created a wave of bands that integrated it’s rules into their sound since then.

So there are definitely some djent elements in the music of Sithu Aye, but there is so much more to it. This one guy from Scotland, who recorderded everything by himself, has an instrumental sound somewhere between djent, progressive metal, ambient and metalcore. So fans of TesseracT, Textures, Cloudkicker and Between The Buried And Me should check this out immediately! His first album ‘Cassini‘ can be downloaded via his bandcamp for a Pay What You Want pricing!

Hurray! Heavy Metal Bowling‘s sold out again. 5th time in a row, and also 5th time in a row it sells out in a new record time; less than 48 hours! We thank all of you guys for attending the event.
