For the first time in history, the ‘big four of thrash‘ (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax) can be seen on stage together. There have been shows in Poland, Switzerland and Prague already and tomorrow this super line-up will play at the Sonisphere festival in Bulgaria. Those who can’t visit one of the Sonisphere shows can visit one of the many movie theaters all over the world that will broadcast the show in Bulgaria live. Trailer for a new documentary about Killing Joke called “Killing Joke: The Death and Resurrection Show”. Seems to be pretty interesting!

Set against the return of the original Band’s line-up for the final 30th anniversary worldwide tour, the film is based around the dark, humorous and often misunderstood portrait of the perverse, encyclopedic genius of Killing Joke’s founding front-man Jaz Coleman and the strange powers over other’s reality that he claims and seems to have.

The film covers the history of Killing Joke; dubbed the Forefathers of Industrial and considered to be one of rock’s most influential bands you’d be hard pressed to find many bands who haven’t at one time or another cited Killing Joke’s music and belief system as an influence. The members of Nirvana, The Cult, Metallica, Tool, KLF and Soundgarden are just a sampling of the musicians who have admitted to being under the Joke’s influence; Chris Cornell insisted that they were a template that he used in forming Soundgarden.

In the study, 14 cotton-top tamarins were played 30-second blasts of music while the researchers noted any changes in their behaviour. The animals were played Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and a soft piano piece from The Fragile by rock band Nine Inch Nails, followed by Metallica’s Of Wolf and Man and an excerpt from The Grudge by rock band Tool.

They then heard the specially composed monkey music.

The only human music that elicited any response was the heavy metal band Metallica, whose music had the unexpected effect of calming the monkeys.

When your music calms monkeys instead of exiting them, you know your badass band has failed…

But what if the monkeys didn’t react at all on your music? Maybe Tool and NIN also are not as tough as we all thought.

Yeah, Metallica on celli is old news: everybody checked Apocalyptica, and most of us moved on. But here’s something new and fresh: Harptallica!

At the moment I’m watching Pinkpop at tv. Metallica built the studio from Stichting Anger in Landgraaf for rehearsals and for a fee of 1,5 million euro they are promoting their new album and they get the airplay for their new songs. Hey, this one sounds like One. Hey, this one sounds like Enter Sandman. Maybe Jan Smeets can call Artilla Bookings for next year. He books Imitallica. Without the firework, but much cheaper.

You might be at the Metallica concert right now. They are kind of losers. First Metallica sued Napster users. Now they are “giving away” their music. But actually they don’t give it away. It’s just a marketing trick. Check this Wired article on it.

This year Metallica was in the run to be booked. After seeing their 2004 24 pages rider we decided not to book them since they overrule every other band to make any chance winning this award.
