Unfortunately the Israelian garage rockers Monotonix (ZXZW 2007) have broken up but had fans recording footage for the video of ‘Before I Pass Away’ on their farewell tour. An iPhone and camera in the crowd got destroyed during the show and according to them, it was the most violent and chaotic show they ever played.

The annual Paaspop festival (Easterpop festival) will take place next weekend during, of course, Eastern! Of course, we will be there,  celebrating the resurrection of Jesus and drinking lots of beer. This year, many artists that have played Incubate/ZXZW in the past five years are playing at Paaspop. Look how big our little babies became! We still think these bands are hot so if you’re going to Paaspop, you should check them out. Headlining are bands like Opeth, Arch Enemy, K’s Choice, Suicidal Tendencies, Karma to Burn and many more.

Currently, Go Back To The Zoo (ZXZW 2008) is doing really well. After the show on our festival, on of their songs ended up in an international Nike commercial, they visited a lot of national tv and radio shows and they’re playing a lot of shows through the whole country. GBTTZ is a must see on Paaspop Saturday, Jack Daniels Stage! Another great band at the JD Stage this Saturday is The Hickey Underworld from Belgium.
Bonaparte‘s playing at the Restolounge stage on the Sunday. This sure will be a big party with the German band, just like they managed to let Cul de Sac explode last Incubate festival.
One of the very few artists that played Incubate twice is TV Buddahs. In 2008 and 2009 they spread their dance influenced mix of Velvet Underground and Black Sabbath over Incubate and many, many other venues over the world. Their big friends Monotonix (6x ZXZW 2007) supposed to play at Paaspop too, but as you might know, the singer broke his leg and won’t be able to come over.

And last but not least, one band that’s playing Incubate 2010. Shaking Godspeed came with their first 12″ vinyl release on Quadrofoon Records from Tilburg last January which is awesome. We call it punkblueschaos, and we say you have to see this, on Paaspop, Incubate 2010, or one of the other shows in the Netherlands this year.

It didn’t happen at one of the six shows they did at ZXZW back in 2007. No. After more than 700 shows without any (serious) injuries, Monotonix singer Ami Shalev finally broke his leg at a show in West Palm Beach. Some shows of the short tour will be cancelled, but Monotonix, like they always do, will try to do every single show they can. The band left the following message on the accident:

Ami injured leg, Athens show cancelled
during the show in west palm beach, florida we did with surfer blood in “respectable st. cafe” (which was our first southern florida show), Ami had a bad landing on his feet during the first song.
he was on Haggai, then he jumped down, and got a bad pain in his right knee, it’s something he’s been carrying since a blow he suffered at a show in tel aviv in the summer of 2008.we kept playing the second song but obviously something was wrong with Ami, and we didn’t know if we should stop or not yet. he tried to keep going, but during the third song it was pretty obvious he can’t go on after he had to lean on people from the audience to stay standing.
we never stopped a show in 700 shows, but yesterday it seemed like we should.
Ami asked if there was a paramedic or doctor at the audience, and everyone thought it was a joke. even when he laid down at the side of the venue a guy that was helping him (which was a wrestling coach) kept asking us if it was a prank and he’s gonna get up and keep going in a sec.
I was holding the ice on Ami’s leg and people kept asking: “are you guys selling merch?”
we stopped the show and Ami layed down. an ambulance came and Ami refused to get on it.

we packed our stuff and drove to JFK Memorial Hospital close to Palm Beach and put Ami on a wheelchair.
the doctor showed up asking for autographs and started having the nurses take his pictures with Ami and the band. other nurses kept coming in and out of the room with monotonix show videos playing on their ipods.
the highlight of the evening was the doctor showing us youtubes of his 12 year old son playing drums while Ami is getting pain killer shots to his butt from the nurse.
there was a commercial TV in the hospital room and the bill was tremendous.

we’re gonna cancel tonight in Athens, but still try to make it to Charlotte and Asheville to finish the tour properly, and then off to Chicago to record.

Ami is in good spirits, but still can’t step on his leg. we’re hoping it will be better soon.

Our favorite live band is Monotonix. They met up with the folks at Drag City, who’ll release Body Language, a new EP recorded in San Francisco. Drag City will release the Body Language disc April 22, just as Monotonix are about to wrap the truly gargantuan North American tour they’ll embark on later this month.
