Ten albums in ten years of time, Xiu Xiu is doing a pretty good job if we’re talking about productivity. The man behind Xiu Xiu, Jamie Stewart, worked with a lot of different band members but he himself is the only consistent person in this project.

The Caretaker is all about lost memories, amnesia and nostalgia to old times. Creating a deep beautiful, but sometimes sinister atmosphere he tries to take you back in your personal history through electronic ambient music. Pleasant memories, bad dreams, being alone in the dark, all these emotions overtake the listener. If you’ve seen the Kubrick movie ‘The Shining’, you will get an idea of the beautiful but disturbing feelings The Caretaker tries to evoke.

Boris – New Album

Most of you probably know Boris. The doom/sludge metal band Boris, that is. Not the Dutch (former) Idols-star. Boris have released somewhere over 15 releases to this day, ranging from metal till ambient. But nobody, NOBODY, expected this: an album full of accessible yet experimental J-pop. J-pop as in Japanese pop? Indeed. A lot of people will hate this. But we support independent culture and breaking boundaries. And that is exactly what Boris have done. And you can’t deny ‘Flare‘ is extremely catchy. Or that ‘Luna‘ isn’t a great and well-executed track.
Oh, btw, we LOVE the artwork, but did they have to make underwear out of it?

Ever since his wonderful last release ‘…And They Have Escaped The Weight Of Darkness‘, we have followed the contemporary composer Ólafur Arnalds. His latest offering is ‘Living Room Songs‘. Some people are stating that there isn’t much renewal in the post-modern/neo-classical scene. In that case you can skip this one, because Ólafur Arnalds isn’t crossing any lines either. But that doesn’t mean that these soft piano pieces are bad. Not at all, actually. They’re beautifully haunting and perfect for the oncoming winter.

Marionette – Nerve

And from neo-classical music to some melodic metalcore-esque death-metal. It’s nothing In Flames haven’t done yet, but if you’re in the mood, Marionette‘s ‘Nerve’ does its duty. Pummeling drums, heavy production on the guitars and on top of that some clear almost Trance-y synthesizers. It doesn’t always have to be something new or darker-than-dark music right?

Morrissey (The Smiths) recently played some new songs on BBC live, which were up for streaming afterwards at The NJ Underground. These three tracks can also be streamed below. During this session Morrissey also revealed that his latest studio album is ready, but he has yet to find a label for it. The former Smiths frontman is set to perform at Muziekgebouw Frits Philips in Eindhoven, Holland later this year.

The Blizzard Beasts that have been named Immortal are about to release a new album. Terrorizer heard it already:

While a disturbing proportion of team Terrorizer were sunning themselves in Donington and desperately trying to relive their youth by convincing themselves that nu-metal was at one point actually enjoyable to listen to, one of us fell asleep on the Picadilly line and ended up in Donzdorf. And no that wasn’t made up by mashing together two words that sound German. While there Terrorizer bumped into a couple of Norwegian fellows who insisted we went to what was assumed to be some kind of nuclear bunker and listen an album they’ve been working on. James Minton exclusively expounds his thoughts on IMMORTAL’s upcoming album, ‘ALL SHALL FALL’.

We just hope that the new album will feature at least one song that can match this classic: Mountains of Might Video

Rockumentary heroes Spinal Tap (with the heavy metal Umlaut on the n) are back!

June 16th will go down in history as the day Spinal Tap released their new album ‘Back from the Dead’ which will feature an hour long DVD, alternate versions of “Sex Farm” and “(Listen to the) Flower People“, as well as Derek Smalls’ previously unreleased exploration “Jazz Odyssey” parts I, II and II.
