This is Martijn from the interview for the ZXZW exhibition. I’m mailing you because a review of True Norwegian Black Metal has appeared in De Volkskrant recently (I have no idea why so late), one of the major Dutch dailies (like The NY Times or The Guardian.) Some radio people read the review, thought it would be interesting for their programme, googled for more info and found me. Now I have to give a talk on national radio on the book and Norwegian black metal on Radio 1, the national public news station on Monday evening between 8 and 10 (unless they cancel at the last moment.) I’ll already do my best to keep the sensationalism down and the content up.

Sorry guys, but we wanted to add some more black metal to our extensive black metal program including Peter Beste’s Norwegian black metal exhibitiont and bands like Watain, black anvil, Bunkur, The Devil’s Blood and Burial Hex. On stage with GORGOROTH, Gaahl is the very definition of a mother-in-law’s nightmare. The long-haired, evil-looking man with corpse paint scares the hell out of the parent generation, while fans all over the world love and admire his terrifying masculinity. Together with modeling agent Dan DeVero (see photo below), however, he displays far more feminine sides. The musician dressed in black and the fur-wearing modeling agent are behind the clothing collection Wynjo, which will launch in 2009.

The two men became very close friends after they met a year and a half ago. “We had hired models from DXD Models for a music video to be recorded in Bergenshallen. During the shoot, Dan suddenly appeared and became upset with us because one of his models had been served wine. That was the first time I met him,” says Gaahl, or Kristian Espedal, which is his real name. Read more.

Arlette is producing our black metal project with artists like Watain and Peter Beste. Today she told us she’s afraid of the roundabout of the Tilburg fun fair.

The 14th of September A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Rakim, MF Doom and Immortal Technique will play in 020 Arena at the Rock the Bells tour. Vince can’t go. He has to be at the Peter Beste opening of ZXZW.
